  1. Americans, if they’re so inclined, can now donate to pay down the national debt via Venmo and PayPal. The U.S. Treasury Department’s little-known program has been around for decades, and Americans have donated $67.3 million in the last 29 years, which has done little to bring down the current $36.7 trillion in debt. Even a generous donation is unlikely to make much of a difference, however. The $67.3 million given since 1996 only accounts for 20 minutes of debt, according to Axios. The national debt, which measures what the U.S. owes its creditors, rose to $36,721,531,033,603 Friday, according to the latest numbers published by the Treasury Department. That is up about $34.5 billion from the figure reported the previous day. Forty years ago, the national debt was $907 billion. I call it a donation because it certainly isn't going back into anything to help the people.. all the money and yet no funded healthcare. And they're in debt still? Sounds like the government's problem not the people's

  7. He never said that . People on Twitter one day decided that because there wasn't a lot of black roles in his movies, he was racist, and ASSUMED that he believed black people didn't fit his aesthetic. Same logic as the people saying that Lady GaGa supports genocide and enjoys palestinian kids being murdered: Twitter creates a problem in their head, they fill all the blank spaces with their unemployed delusions, and run with the wildest narrative imaginable . Tim Burton never, ever said, or suggested, that he made the deliberate choice to avoid casting black people. He did say something that many found controversial however, when asked about it. He responded to those allegations by saying more or less that it was something that just never crossed his mind, and that he found performative inclusion to be offensive. That's the only thing he said on the matter. That in itself, was problematic for a lot of people still, and I can see why. It can easily be interpreted as him joining the "forced inclusion" crowd, but I personally believe he was strictly talking about tokenism. What I believe he meant, is that the idea of having a black character, solely to check that box , as a token, was an offensive thought, to him. But that's just my personal interpretation of his words, I'm not his lawyer . In any case, that is what he said, and that is what he should be dragged for, or not. He never said he didn't cast black talents because they didn't fit his aesthetic . It is true anyways that he started casting black actors for bigger roles, right after, so clearly he felt the heat . What I think is that, as an illustrator, he used to cast based on his sketches; Burton draws his characters before filming, not just for his animated films: he drew the characters for Batman Returns too, before choosing the actors, that's just what he does. And his drawings are always these pale little creatures with unnatural grey/white skin. He probably kept casting people to resemble his drawings, without ever realizing it resulted in excluding several demographics from his movies. Again, my personal interpretation. But like I said: judge him based on what he actually said, not what Twitter says he said, because they're not the same thing, lol.

  32. Water has power. So much power, in fact, that pumping Earth’s groundwater can change the planet’s tilt and rotation. It can also impact sea-level rise and other consequences of climate change Pumping groundwater appears to have a greater consequence than ever previously thought. But now—thanks to a study publishedin the journal Geophysical Research Letters—we can see that, in less than two decades, Earth has tilted 31.5 inches as a result of pumping groundwater. This equates to .24 inches of sea level rise. “Earth’s rotational pole actually changes a lot,” Ki-Weon Seo, a geophysicist at Seoul National University and study lead, says in a statement. “Our study shows that among climate-related causes, the redistribution of groundwater actually has the largest impact on the drift of the rotational pole.” With the Earth moving on a rotational pole, the distribution of water on the planet impacts distribution of mass. “Like adding a tiny bit of weight to a spinning top,” authors say, “the Earth spins a little differently as water is moved around.” NASA research published in 2016 alerted us to the fact that the distribution of water can change the Earth’s rotation. This study in Geophysical Research Letters attempts to add some hard figures to that realization. “I’m very glad to find the unexplained cause of the rotation pole drift,” Seo says. “On the other hand, as a resident of Earth and a father, I’m concerned and surprised to see that pumping groundwater is another source of sea-level rise.” The study included data from 1993 through 2010, and showed that the pumping of as much as 2,150 gigatons of groundwater has caused a change in the Earth’s tilt of roughly 31.5 inches. The pumping is largely for irrigation and human use, with the groundwater eventually relocating to the oceans. This data may also help conservationists understand how to work toward staving off continued sea level rise and other climate issues. Hopefully, changes can be properly implemented over time. https://www.popularmechanics.com/science/environment/a65515974/why-earth-has-tilted-science/ https://phys.org/news/2023-06-weve-groundwater-nudged-earth.html

  38. Typically record labels will update an artist's certifications whenever a new era is brewing or beginning. I believe they updated some of Gaga's numbers not too long ago (maybe within the last couple of months or year?) but not her certifications I don't think. I'm guessing they probably see that a few songs are near a big milestone and are perhaps waiting to just update everything all at once?
