It’s 100% a stylistic choice. Any time Gaga’s albums sound a certain way it’s that. BTW *does sound crazy but that was the point. She wanted it to be loud, messy, muddy and garbled. If you don’t like it, okay, but acting like it’s some overlooked error is just silly when she’s been on the record for basically every album talking about her intentions with the overall quality of sound

Perfect illusion is one of gagas best songs to me, the lyrics especially in the verses are written in the mature tone that most MAYHEM tracks have. Its also vocally one of her best songs, you can just hear how minimal the studio work was on her voice by how natural it sounds. The production is thrilling the build up to final chorus feels like an eargasm. Its truly a shame that this song had a such a mixed reception and largely goes unnoticed within the GP today but i know its day will come. However until then, i feel like a big reason perfect illusion underperformed was because gaga gave up on the vision too soon and it makes sense now because when the album was released it was clear that perfect illusion didnt quite represent the album sound especially for a lead single. The track was just too ahead of its time stuck out like a thumb and sounded nothing like what was trending in 2016. I was listening to MAYHEM and realised how much perfect illusion fit into this album just right between Perfect Celebrity and vanish into you. Try to Listen to the album in order and put perfect illusion between these two tracks especially with a fade out and see how seamlessly it fits. Not just sonically but perfect illusion belongs on MAYHEM aesthetically. The title reads like a line from a poem, painting a vivid picture without using a full sentence which is the same device uses in most of mayhems track titles, using fragmented poetic phrases like vanish into you.

Its interesting just how promo sensitive gaga is. The best thing about gaga music is that its always one big party. But Its popularity can die out a little bit once people feel like the party is over. The tour will do something for her. We didn't know how big the promo concerts would be/ their streaming impact. 5, it's not a bad song per se, but having Gaga and Florence on such a mid song is ****ing criminal. Where's the drama? The guitars, the harphs?? Even vocally so boring for two such power houses, and don't get me started on such eh lyrics.

Disease already sounded like one of Gaga’s best mixes. so is Mayhem. better than Joanne’s mixing, Born This Way (yeah), ARTPOP and on par with Chromatica which had been her best so far along with TF+M. it even slaps in Dolby Atmos, which is 10x harder to mix. DWAS is a collaboration. Someone had to be working on it first for it to exist. This is a fact with all songs. Bad Romance existed before Gaga was on it - as an instrumental concept - but we don't discredit it's achievements and call it a RedOne song or a half achievement. Celine Dion wrote exactly zero songs in her entire life. Are we saying "my heart will go on" isn't a successful song & shouldn't be on her albums? The talk around DWAS is typical of the stratospheric standard people hold Gaga to that they do not hold any other artist to. She must write, sing, perform, choreograph, produce, play the instruments & birth the concept... because? OH! Almost forgot, she must also heavily promote & have extreme chart success and critical acclaim all at the same time. You people are on a different planet.
