Lady Gaga on why she named her new album MAYHEM: “The album was called MAYHEM to memorialize a piece of me and a piece of life that is not always easy to accept. It was hard at first to name the album MAYHEM because I so much don't want that feeling to be real. I am also a hopeful person. I’m also somebody that is a dreamer, but what I think I ultimately arrived at is; it’s all of the fractures of who we are and the fractures in the world and the mayhem of that brokenness that ultimately teaches us the power of joy, and dancing and crying and laughing and listening to music and holding your friends and your family and repeat! This album is fun and I enjoyed the contrast of a fun album that’s also called MAYHEM.” https://x.com/gaganotify/status/1886357999679087012?t=j_GVM3R3q_Bwi-LBwRtHuQ&s=1948 points

I didn't see any other thread about this but Gaga and Bruno won Best Pop Duo !!!47 points

Parris may just be the single best addition to the Haus of Gaga in a long, long time. She seems to really understand cinematography in a way that a certain someone never really did. Every single move felt like it was meticulously created to either do something on camera, or to compliment the music. The choreography felt elevated. Plus, it seems like she's a sweetheart, so I'm incredibly glad she's on board45 points

TBH I find this thread going up today was a bit rude. Gaga just today showed the world her new music and artistry. Some of us obviously aren’t as happy as others but why create a topic to add your negative review when you could just have left a comment in existing ones?30 points

I feel the need to share my feelings because I'm overwhelmingly happy about this. Some of you won't like this take but this is my honest opinion as a massive Gaga fan and I come from a place of love. I feel like in a way we "lost" Gaga some time around 2016 and started to get her back some time in 2022, with last night completing a full return to form. I remember having a hard time during the Joanne era hardly recognizing Gaga, like she suddenly became someone completely different. Her interviews, public appearences, her looks, the Joanna album cover and music videos, her whole artistry suddenly felt forced and inauthentic to me. Her mannerisms felt so foreign. Of course Joanne era had some good moments, but overall I felt like her fame, her career up until then, everything that went down with the BTWB and ARTPOP, it all took a toll on her in a way she perhaps won't come back from. And then I started to really worry for her. During the ASIB campaign I felt like she was very reserved, she began to pant heavily while speaking in interviews, and everything she said sounded rehearsed. She felt very very insecure to me despite all the praise she received for the film. Enigma in vegas came around and I hated it. I couldn't understand how such a brilliant artist can put on a show in such bad taste. And then she released Stupid Love, and I remember thinking to myself - this is the shell of the pop megastar she once was. Every trace of fierceness, innovation and character we all fell in love with in her early years was completely gone for me. Chromatica felt like a forced album to me, almost like a Bloodpop project featuring gaga's vocals. I thought she felt like she HAS to go back to being a popstar so she did everything a popstar "should" do without the essence. Again, the album had some great moments, but overall it felt so far removed from the once-in-a-lifetime popstar I fell in love with. Now, something shifted for me in a big way with the Chromatica ball. I remember watching videos from the first night in shock, I almost cried. THERE SHE WAS. GAGA in all her glory, super confident, artisticly intriguing, commanding and fascinating. I didn't believe this day would come. it's like I recognised her again. But I was still nervous about what new music she'll come up with and wether it will give me the same exciting feeling. DWAS, Harlequin and Disease really did it for me. I was sold. It's her again. musically uncompromising, completely original, truly exciting, and most importantly - the Gaga essence. Her aura was there. She's back. and something about last night just really sealed the deal for me. She looked so so happy and confident, she gave a perfect performance, won a well deserved grammy and used that moment to stand up for something important, and released her most convicting song in YEARS. To me Abracadabra is everything I didn't believe we well ever get from her again. her best release in over a decade. and MAYHEM as a whole album already feel so so authentic and moving, it's getting me truly thrilled and emotional. Welcome back baby. Missed you so so much27 points

https://www.elle.com/uk/life-and-culture/culture/a63631038/lady-gaga-abracadabra/ ELLE: At the end of the video, is she defeated? Are you victorious over all that inner doubt? GAGA: To me, in this video, she initiates the challenge and this purer side of me that is peering up at all of the negative backtalk, all of the doubt, and facing all that side of me, she completely comes through. And she says, 'I'm up for the challenge.' And it's interesting because we had all these different ways that we thought about the video ending and ultimately I wanted this song to be about resilience in a way the song Disease was not. That track was about inner torture and being trapped. And so with this song, I wanted to crack open what it means to persevere. And explore the metaphor of perseverance on the dance floor, because the dance floor is - for me, anyway - it has always been the place where I try to improve myself as a human being. How do I work harder? Have more passion? How do I give more of my authentic self? How do I earn my spot as a performer?26 points

Sonically, this is so different than I was expecting But not in a bad way! I was prepared for some gothic industrial electronic sound, and while this still has elements of that, it's a lot more dance, house, and 80s pop too. It's an instant bop for me though, and it's a nice foil to Disease. As for the video...MY GOD WHAT THE F*CKKKKKKKKKK The choreography was phenomenal (thank god Richy is gone!), the visuals were insane, and I loved the gothic ballroom setting For me, this is easily her best video since the BTW/ARTPOP days. Speaking of ARTPOP, this oddly reminded me a lot of Applause, which got me really emotional. Idk what it is. The black/white setting + the fact that it's choreo-focused? Applause was the song and video that made me become a Little Monster, so it's crazy to see something that kind of reminds me of it. It's crazy to see how far she's come and she's still f*cking got it. ABRACADAAABRAAA22 points

It’s totally giving Alejandro music video vibes! You can also tell she has a new choreographer22 points
-
I'm sorry but I've never seen Gaga execute a choreo as intentional, meticulous and meaningful as this one, and not just Gaga but every single dancer in the entire team seems to function as a vital piece in every single movement the synergy isn't just in the dancing, it's in the editing as well. I'm afraid Paris Goebel might be the most intelligent choreographer and creative director in Gaga's career and I can't wait to see how she directs the Mayhem Ball I need to know what the pop star maker richy thinks21 points

WARNING: Plz do not be mean to people who may not like the song and please also be respectful to those who love the song! I just want to see if anyone else has the same thoughts as me and was al ittle bit disappointed The album will be amazing for sure! Just I dont think i like either single so far tbh. To me Abra felt a bit like Gaga almost like not knowing how to be a popstar anymore...it feels like a parody of old Gaga in some ways but again I am HAPPY for the ppl who love it and it means it did its job for you guys for sure!21 points

Flawless modern Euro-Techno-Pop. It echoes the fantastical energy of Leila K’s Open Sesame -Abracadabra is also destined to drive Europe wild. The production is impeccable, balancing nostalgia with a futuristic edge. Operatic undertones are masterfully woven in, befitting her status as the queen of eccentric dance. I love how she commands her vocals, striking with both force and finesse. This dynamic range fuels the momentum and leaves space for the performance to evolve. I am positively surprised and happy to see that she decided to go big. Kudos!21 points

The video seemed so familiar and now I know why. It's so self-referential and clever. There are references to: -Alejandro with the tones and the dancers + the lady in red overlooking the dancers -Born This Way with the dancer shapes and camera view from above (+ the focus on choreography and movement as expression) -the Fame commercial with the latex and her makeup -getting picked up similarly to as she did at the beginning of G.U.Y before she was submerged in the pool -the all-white like in Bad Romance -the spark and smoke like in Applause -and of course... Lady Mayhem from Disease. This video seems to say: I'm a chaos of many things and I use my art to ward off the darkness. The word after all, by definition: mid 16th century (as a mystical word used as a charm to ward off illness). The fact that she also played a snippet in Paris is clever as well. The song is so euro-dance pop, Paris is also famous for being a romantic city with goth undertones (fight me on this, I can argue on this statement). I'm in so much awe and I never thought I would re-live or re-experience the same buzz I did from when BTW came out. I love this woman.18 points

I really can’t believe this is real. Gaga has this spark about her right now that I haven’t seen in years, and it’s showing through every impeccable piece of art she has put out in the last year. I am so blessed and grateful to be able to experience her artistry and to have her as the soundtrack of my life. This song and video are so different from everything I was expecting in the best way possible like OH MY GODDDDD?!?! No one is doing it like her, especially at damn near 20 years into their careers.17 points
