Is the song connected to whatever’s happening on LG7? Absolutely. “Die With a Smile” is on my record — it’s a huge part of my album. It was like this missing piece. The record is full of my love of music — so many different genres, so many different styles, so many different dreams. It leaps around genre in a way that’s almost corrupt. And it ends with love. That’s the answer to all the chaos in my life is that I find peace with love. Every song that I wrote, I just kept getting kind of swept away in these different dreams I was having about the past — almost like a recollection of all these bad decisions that I made in my life. But it ends in this very happy place. You’re headlining Coachella in April, which will be your second time there after performing in 2017. When the announcement came out, you said, “I’ve had a vision I’ve never been able to fully realize at Coachella” and that you’ve “been wanting to go back and to do it right.” Can you elaborate? Well, for reasons totally outside of my control, there was a cancellation — Beyoncé pulled out in 2017 because she was pregnant, and you stepped in. I really wanted to be there for music fans, and at the time there was all this excitement to be able to film bits of “A Star Is Born” at Coachella. But I only had two weeks [to prepare for the show]. And so to design a stage, to have it made, all of those things — I didn’t have the time to totally do what I really wanted to do. I love music. I love performing. I love music fans. And I was so excited to film pieces of our movie there. So I did it, and I loved it. But you know when you have a vision in your mind of how you want to do something? It’s time to make it happen. You’ve returned to ballads regularly throughout your career. I’m thinking of one record I didn’t put on my [upcoming] album that’s actually… I might put it out so I don’t want to share the name. You almost got me [laughs]. It’s actually very fragile and not big — one of the first times I’ve ever done that. But I like big ballads. You can sing along about love in a big way. I love emotional, dramatic music, whether it’s James Taylor and Carole King or it’s David Lee Roth. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/music/story/2024-12-19/lady-gaga-die-with-a-smile-bruno-mars-grammys-coachella-interview79 points

Wouldn't that technically make DWAS the lead single?57 points
-
Didn't she say herself some time ago that Die With A Smile was a standalone single somewhere?!51 points

For anyone having meltdowns: Imagine Speechless being the lead in TFM and smashing hard. Would you consider TFM a mess? I can see why DWAS is part of LG7 and I am totally cool with it. That doesn't mean a thing about the sonic vibes from the rest of the album.49 points

The gays must be running to the Gaga Thoughts to make a new "Rank the lead singles" thread as I type this42 points
-
Music is business and Lady Gaga is a big/mainstream artist and not some alternative-indie-hippie girl. Of course DWAS will be a part of LG7. The success of this song and the longevity it has are 2 things that are very huge to be ignored.32 points

STREAMING GAYS WON AND THE ARTISTIC GAYS LOST???32 points

The fact that Gesaffelstein is CONFIRMED as a LG7 producer is not being discussed enough since the main thread is clouded with DWAS meltdowns. I don't know about you but this is a collaboration I've been dreaming of "I loved making “Harlequin.” I loved collaborating with all the DJs and Gesaffelstein on my new album. I loved learning about industrial music and about all the different crevices of electronic music, and then I loved working with Bruno. One of the things I’ve probably been judged for in my career was not sticking to one thing. But not sticking to one thing is my life force." https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/music/story/2024-12-19/lady-gaga-die-with-a-smile-bruno-mars-grammys-coachella-interview edit: for those unfamiliar here are some of the songs he's produced for himself and The Weeknd.29 points

DWAS and Disease sound nothing alike so the album isn't gonna be cohesive at all, I understand from a business point of view DWAS being such a success it's good for the album's streaming numbers etc. but yeah this is a mess.28 points

gaga for a while now: LG7 is a big mix of genres y'all finding out a different genre song is on the album today:27 points
-
Her most successful lead single then! 😂 In all seriousness: That was never planned but it is a smart move and it will boost the album numbers a lot, lets be grateful. DWAS rescued 2024 for her narrative of a successfull mega star26 points

Now what a cheap move23 points

she said It was a standalone project, wtf gurl23 points

Girl, reading that thread pissed me off so much. The overreactions are insane and completely hypocritical. Little monsters want commercial success, but when when it happens they turn into the art police and question Gaga’s “artistic integrity.” Or they say they’re excited when Gaga says the album is gonna be chaotic and full of different genres, but then they complain that Disease and DWAS aren’t “cohesive.” Or they say that she’s lost her “artistic vision” even though she’s been at her best, artistically, in YEARS. I mean, Harlequin, DWAS, and Disease?! Hello?! Some of her best projects in FOREVER and y’all are complaining that she’s now a slave to the machine and doesn’t care about her art? Stfu22 points

Seriously, guys, Gaga gave a whole lot of herself this 2024 in a way she hasn't in years. We were blessed with many different projects, music pieces, and performances, with some being a bit more commercially successful than others, but in the end we're still very grateful for her contributions! We were very spoiled this year with so much different art and music coming from her. 2025 is also shaping up to be even bigger too which is insane to even imagine. Hot take: i think it's ok to let her have a "bling" (play the game) moment this time around with DWAS. Yes, yes, i'm aware of "music not the bling", but guys Gaga is a major artist and will always have to balance the two. It doesn't mean she's throwing her "artistic integrity" away! Far from it. Hell "DWAS" may just be added to a deluxe who knows? In the end, DWAS still her song too, big moment obviously, for Bruno too and personally I play Disease/DWAS back to back quite a bit haha Also during the pandemic she pretty much let the Chromatica album speak for itself so sometimes, the scale can be tipped. Bring on the multiple chaos of LG7 Gags! We thank u dearly for 2024 !20 points

With DWAS and Disease gagging the critics and the charts, LG7 is currently sitting at 330k units in the US - almost 50k more than the #1 album Chromatica debuted at (274k). EDIT: While this is great for certifications, this will not be a boost to LG7’s first week sales numbers SOURCE: https://x.com/behzad_hudson/status/1869760686521553014?s=46 - In other news, DWAS is at 3x platinum and Disease is nearing gold at 400k https://x.com/behzad_hudson/status/1869759505686577273?s=46 https://x.com/mature_13/status/1869602914182017237?s=4620 points

Not surprised it's on. And by the sounds of it, its the album closer track. Her talking about the genre fusions and bending coming on LG7 make me think the collab rumours around the Weeknd and Rosé may have more truth to them than we realise. She just seems to be in a very collaborative and exploratory mood.20 points

Think about the snippets of abracadabra and notorious being and dance in the shadow and the snippet of the new song in the disease music video, she said herself this album is all about chaos and has lots of different genres, I trust she’ll find a way to make it cohesive and make sense, but I also have no doubt it’s going to have LOTS of dark pop dance moments18 points

I can’t believe I’m writing this but as of yesterday Disease is BACK on sub power rotation on Z100 As of yesterday at the latest Yesterday - 8 spins total Today - 5 Spins so far (5 hours left) In the MIDDLE of the Christmas Freeze And a gentle reminder that it’s almost top 20 on pop radio callouts. Something DWAS reached just within the last month (someone correct me if I’m wrong)18 points

she's a POP star managed by a label, it's how this business works it has happened many times before in her career, it will happen many many times more in the future until she parts ways with a major label that's just pop music17 points

Ya’ll are nuts lmao. The overreactions to this is actually insane15 points

Not including DWAS in the album is to throw to the garbage 1 billion of steams, ya'll are really bad little managers15 points

Let's not forget Disease and DWAS both used old TVs as teasers...I think there always was a link15 points

as a #1 DWAS4LG7 supporter, i am crying we won. I hope this is true and not just a mishap from LA times. THIS IS THE CORRECT THING TO DO. #DWAS4LG715 points

LG7 will be titled as ARTCHART. Disease represents art while DWAS represents chart. The album will be as non-cohesive as possible like ARTPOP showcasing full chaos.14 points
-
the wild reactions to DWAS being on LG7 (wich Gaga has told us fits in the album anyway) are almost embarassing to read anyone would think she just told us LG7 is cancelled and she's re recording an album with bruno instead14 points
-
It is a Bruno track or at the very least it was a standalone single. It's only being put on the album so LG7 can debut with a billion+ streams in its pocket already. Literally sacrificing whatever artistic vision she had for the project in favor of streams. Bling, not the music, I guess. And yes I will be dramatic about it 'cause this is not the woman I started stanning in 2013 that leaked her own song 'cause her vision was to have it be the lead instead of the song the label picked. There were times when one song was more successful than another so they switched up singles, which is annoying but fine. But to have her sitting in this interview gaslighting us into believing DWAS was not only always a part of LG7 (it wasn't) but that it's one of its core pillars is so frustrating. I was already mad that she left Disease to rot in favor of pushing the song that was selling more but now I'm just plain put off lmao Girl, let me go to work14 points
-
Ahahahaha some of yall are sending me yet again. I mean, why trust a 38 year old woman to make decisions for her own work, project, album. She also said in the interview IT WAS THE LAST PART ADDED TO THE RECORD and that it ties the entire thing AT THE END together. And guess what. If you don’t like the song in context of the album DONT LISTEN TO IT AND DONT SAVE IT IN YOUR LIBRARY. jesus f‘n christ. Gonna watch some housewives now to calm down.14 points
-
This is so annoying. She says she loves the music, not the bling. I wish she would stick to her creative and artistic vision instead of doing incohesive stuff just to have a "commercially" successful album. Come on.14 points

1432 means "I Love You Too" 'I Woke Up', 'Has A Heart', 'No Tears for New Year's' were on deluxe versions of 143, 'OK' has never been released13 points

YOU KNOW WHAT? IM TIRED OF HER BEING NICE! IT'S ABOUT TIME SHE GETS GREEDY! FRAUDGA WE LOVE YOUUU13 points

Y'all this is a worldwide SMASH. Ofc it’s gonna be on the album. I’m actually grateful for it. Success guaranteed. I’m sure they know how to make it blend with the rest of the songs and the album as a whole. TBH DWAS is too good to not get album treatment - it’s gonna come down as one of her biggest hits, which it already is. It has been number one globally for 3 months ??! And might be number one on the hot 100 after Christmas13 points
-
She just explained in the interview why the song is an important part of the album and whats her vision. Stop being messy, there’s nothing disappointing about her shaping her album the way she wants to. Little managers strike again13 points
-
If the album is called CHAOS that mean whatever she puts there will be cohensive. Look how ARTPOP is multi genere and still cohensive. Just listen to Venus, Manicure, Fashion! and Dope. Visually DWAS starts with an old tv screen and Disease lyrics video is also tv themed. We should wait for all the music and visuals to judge but I'm happy with her decision13 points
-
« Uncohesive album » lol you guys it’s 1 song 😂 of course she had to do it !!! Bravo Gaga!!13 points
