Superstar pop divas Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa and Chappell Roan go a-SUV-caroling in “A Very Carpool Karaoke Christmas,” a holiday special that was unwrapped as a surprise release Sunday night on Apple TV+ and Apple Music. Zane Lowe assumes the role of host for all three segments of the hour-long special, introduced as its guest driver and duet partner in a brief prologue that begins with franchise mainstay James Corden effectively handing over the keys via a phone call from Britain. I finally watched. I officially don't get the hate. It was bizarre. Frustrating. Heartbreaking. Tragic. But I couldn't look away. Maybe I was expecting it to be the worst thing ever, but I really enjoyed it. Was it the best movie? No. But it was very entertaining and I think was aiming for something bigger than just a run of the mill movie. It delivered in that respect. (Gaga was great, but totally under utilized. I dk what the theme was for the Harlequin show but given the setlist comprising jazz and ballads, it's probably wise to utilise the Christmas hype? I just don't see how it'd see the light of the day if it's not by the end of the year. They should definitely push for the 'Our movie was misunderstood and ahead of its time' narrative. I'm not even saying this for strategic purposes - the movie is genuinely misunderstood. With the release of Harlequin tape, people will be objective enough, at this time, to dissociate her contributions from the flaws of the script. Joker: FAD is technically still being considered for awards even if chances are not high, so it makes sense to release it within the awards cycle too. Once she's got this out of the way, both the GP and little monsters can start the year fresh with completely dark visuals and themes undistracted by Die With A Smile, Harlequin and Joker. She could, and should go all in for LG7 and have no holds barred. Thoughts?

In an ideal world people will watch it in Max, realize the hate campaign was overblown, and finally start to have their own opinion on the film. It’s not a perfect film and Gaga was def underutilized, but I really think it’s a wonderful film and was a very unique and brave portray of mental health, society and the prison system.

I will be watching it for the first time on my flight tomorrow, contributing to its number one status after so many people didn’t want to see it in theaters because the reviews were so bad but also desperately curious to see how it turned out.
