(This is a translated article) In the lobby of the Cinemark of the Pátio Paulista shopping mall, in São Paulo, at least 30 people piled up, euphoric, on Wednesday night (2), several of them wearing T-shirts that printed Lady Gaga's face or dressed in costumes that reproduced the looks of the singer, co-protagonist of the film. Recording videos with their cell phones, one person asked aloud "Are you here to see who?", to which the group replied in chorus: "Lady Gaga, Lady Gaga, Lady Gaga!". The 8:30 pm session was one of several scheduled by that cinema for the first day of screening of "Joker: FAD", a sequel to the 2019 film. Considered as Queen of the gays, Gaga brought to that cinema an organized cheering of people from the LGBTQIA+ community. They all entered the room together, during the screening of the trailers, screaming, waving, jumping, tapping their feet and dancing. It was enough for Gaga to appear on screen for the first time for the whole group to make a racket and prevent the others present in the room from hearing the sound of the film – "give her the Oscar", one of them shouted. The room, with more than 200 seats, was packed. The riot did not stop and, after about ten minutes of screening, the lights were turned on, and the film was interrupted. Some wondered aloud if perhaps Gaga was about to enter the room. The ones arrived at the place were actually two Cinemark employees, accompanied by three mall security guards. One of the company's representatives said that he had received many complaints because of the noise and asked the group of fans to behave so as not to disturb those who had paid the most to watch the film. He also added that he would not hesitate to pause the film again if the hubbub continued. Security guards returned minutes later when Gaga began singing her first song from the film, which is a mix of musical and courtroom drama. The group of rioters did not speak out again. About halfway through the film, many of the singer's fans, bored, began to enter and leave the room repeatedly. They went down the stairs stamping their feet hard. One of them, dressed as Gaga, made a gesture to leave the room, but stopped when the singer released her voice again - he then knelt down and made gestures of praise towards the screen. The shadow of his silhouette covered much of the projection. The session only had a racket again in the final minutes, when the group began to protest with each new song that was sung in the plot. https://www1.folha.uol.com.br/ilustrada/2024/10/sessao-de-coringa-e-parada-em-sao-paulo-apos-baderna-e-gritaria-de-fas-de-lady-Gaga.shtml60 points

comic fans are so dramatic so you’re telling that this is worse than Suicide Squad, Batman vs Superman and other horrendous superhero movies? lol55 points

Hopefully getting fired up for LG7 lead. Let Todd and Joaquin worry about the aftermath of FAD. She’s done more than enough for this project.51 points

After seeing JFAD, it all clicked to me. Clearly the film did not portray Gaga’s talents in the best light. For the most part, Gaga was made to sing in character with her “bad” voice. The musical numbers were not very powerful in the film. Gaga created a phenomenal song for the movie (Folie a Deux) and it was paid dust in a 20 second scene. As a result, the film’s soundtrack is probably not so great and as a viewer of the film you don’t see all of Gaga’s talents shine through. I strongly believe Gaga began to realize this as the film was being edited, and decided to change the narrative. She comes up with the idea of Harlequin, a companion album, in which she can sing to the best of her abilities and showcase her real talent. Her fans get to hear her original songs in full plus how well she can actually cover the songs used in the movie. It’s almost like an “F you” to the director. Further to this point, you cannot tell me that Die With A Smile was not for Joker. It literally has “die” and “smile” in the title. I bet Gaga created it for the movie, and that Todd scrapped it. Gaga knew it was amazing, and just as she did with Harlequin, she needed to find a way for it to see the light of day. If my theory is true, I really give kudos to Gaga for not letting others squander her creative output.31 points

I've said it in other threads and although Todd Phillips made very questionable decisions and is taking the heat for them (as he should), Warner Brothers is absolutely at fault as well. I fear we're about to learn some very interesting behind the scenes things about this film in the coming weeks.24 points

ALRIGHT LISTEN UP! Now that it's an established public consensus that JFAD (the movie - NOT Harlequin the album) is cataclysmic flop that will be studied for centuries by Little Monster historians worldwide, I think it's time to flip the script (like Todd Phillips should've) and focus on the positives because we have so much good going right now despite it all. 1) I believe the criticism will light a FIRE under Gaga for LG7. Gaga is super resilient and I believe she will take the box office drama in stride; however, we do know Gaga pays attention to the feedback she gets on her projects, especially in the acting world. Therefore, I think she will have extra motivation for a return-to-form in the pop world, which has been cooking up for a LONG time anyway. And as we all know, vast majority of JFAD criticism is directed at the concept/direction of the film rather than Gaga's individual contribution, which I think was fantastic, and I think we all agree she deserved more out of this - most critics have even noted this in their reviews. 2) Gaga is currently at #5 on the Hot 100 with DWAS. The streaming algorithms are hot and ready for a new single. Additionally, we have had old Gaga songs (Bloody Mary, Judas, etc.) have been going viral on TikTok the past two years with tons of pent up demand for PopGa to be back. I think the GP will move on quickly from JFAD once there's some exciting new music to get into and this movie era will just become another quick flash in the pan. We may get some flack later in the year (Razzies here we come ) but honestly who fkn cares. 3) Harlequin is an absolutely beautiful album that will be a highlight in her musical legacy; to many of us, that's more important than her filmography. And revisiting the album this morning, it's almost like Gaga was subtly alluding to being aware of how divisive this movie era might be... So let's have a laugh together, because with every major flop comes a powerful return Ok clowns... feel free to post your optimistic take below!!22 points

Oh this is gonna bomb. That’s the lowest CinemaScore for a comic book movie ever. For those of you here who don’t know what CinemaScore is, it is a company who polls audiences who go to see a movie on opening weekend and they ask those audiences what they thought of a film. This is not a critical score. This is not a review. This is the average of what the audiences who saw the film on its opening weekend felt about the film. Though not always, CinemaScore is usually the best indication for what a movie box office prospects are. The higher the cinema score for a blockbuster, the more likely that blockbuster is to make a lot of money. This is essentially the indicator for what the movie’s word-of-mouth is going to be. For most genres other than horror for a CinemaScore to be considered good it would need to be a B+ or higher. Blockbusters should ever slip below B+ hopes to really be a breakout hit. Some have managed to do it but very few and far between. For a tentpole IP blockbuster to get a D that means the audience had to really hate it. And keep in mind, this is opening weekend audience so this wanted to be there opening weekend. They WANTED to see this. They were excited for it. I honestly think a lot of this has to do with how deceptively this movie was marketed. I don’t think audiences were going to love it regardless because this plot is really aggressively not what anybody wanted and has stuff people were going to hate no matter what, but the marketing straight up lied about what this movie is and it’s pissing people off.21 points

Maybe following a PR move, due to bad reception and low box office she will be silent. Or just sad about this whole mess. I hope that it doesn't take away her happiness and ambition she was feeling lately.21 points

I really think that Harlequin may exist as a way for her to dissociate from the movie-so that her fans think of the album first and not the movie i mean, think about her press appearances in the last week. They may be for JFAD but she’s dressed for and talking about Harlequin. She kinda took it and did her own thing, and part of me wonders if she knew people would be disappointed in the movie and she’s kinda doing damage control20 points

If anything I want her to not think about the GP or charts with LG7. I want LG7 to be the best music we’ve ever fkin heard and I want her to be creative as she wants to be20 points

I’m not going to speak on the specifics of the movie because I haven’t seen it yet (I’m finally watching it tomorrow), but in terms of having her be the “traditional” Harley Quinn, that was never going to be the case. Joaquin’s hardly a traditional Joker. I feel like people going into the film expecting a comic accurate Joker and Harley were setting themselves up for failure. The first movie made it abundantly clear that this is not what this universe is.19 points

I find it funny that people are finding it hard to see why the film exists when the same can be said about stuff like the 10th fast and furious film, or the 10th saw film.. like most film franchises are milked to death for no reason but don't get this level of negative press?18 points

I'll give this Joker/Harlequin era one more week, just because the movie just came out; otherwise we need to move to LG7 ASAP, we can't let this happen, not after all the Katy Perry mockery. Actions must be taken right now!!!!!16 points

I think this is good tbh. It's a jazz/soul/gospel/rock/funk album that we didn't know existed until a week ago, it got little promo, and it's tied to a movie that most people hate Did y'all expect this to be a smash hit? If there's one good thing to come out of this Joker era, it's definitely Harlequin.16 points

Ramble alert Joker isn't getting the worldwide acclaim we hoped for and a lot people are worried about how Gaga is dealing with this but I don't think Gaga is too suprised by this. I feel She's seasoned, connected, and experienced enough to smell a post production/internal mess from afar. If some of us here could see the cracks early on then I'm sure she could too. If Gaga was confident in this project she would never schedule another solo project so soon after the movie drops. neither would she release an "accompanying" album before the movie release when the movie has a soundtrack of its own. Imagine her dropping music during ASIB rollout akin to die with a smile. She was completely invested in that and every appearance she made during that era except enigma was dedicated to promoting ASIB. I havnt seen the movie yet because I'm disappointed at the amount of screen time she has. and i don't care what anybody says, that was not only a stupid move but very deceptive promotion. I'm happy but not surprised that once again her acting is being praised despite a subpar script. They need to stop wasting this woman's talent. Bradley really deserves his flowers for knowing what was best for the movie and prioritizing that.15 points

I still feel if the movie had an actual plot was + was edited / structured properly, the musical numbers would've been appreciated. If we got a bonny/clyde type of plot where they're abstracting reality and singing together (think 911 MV) + ending on a high note like the OG film, the critics/audiences would've eaten that up13 points
