Some of you may remember me from years ago when I was even a moderator here for a short period. Most of you probably don’t I left for a while but would still occasionally lurk and remained a massive Gaga fan throughout. When I left, there was a chart obsession that was a massive part of this site which, while still present is FAR more calm. With that said, I do see some concern here over critics and the performance of Gaga’s work. To be clear about one thing: Gaga is NOT Taylor Swift and we wouldn’t want her to be. The craziest thing with Lady Gaga is that she made it in the first place. I remember being a closeted queer kid worried about how weird my tastes were, how weird the music I liked was and how drawn I was to certain people and topics. I felt ostracised and different and felt like I couldn’t be myself out of a fear of rejection. Gaga came on the scene and exploded. She was fashion, theatre and everything I wished I could be. I was instantly drawn in to her queer world, one that mixed theatre and art with pop culture references. What was crazy is that everyone else loved her as well and I, like a lot of others, felt like her success was validating. It validated to me that I was not only normal but I was “cool” I had taste and I “got it”. Even when others didn’t like her, I saw it! I saw how incredible her music videos were, I went crazy analysing her performances, I played her albums on repeat and I knew what made her special and “better” than her contemporaries and it was comforting when the world seemed to see it too. With that said, the pop world is fickle. Her brand of dance pop ignited a new sound for top 40 but it couldn’t last forever. Despite this, what I KNEW was true is that she was something special as a musician/performer/artist. While originally I craved for her to set the world on fire again, I soon saw how limiting it would be for her talent if she just followed pop trends. Gaga did the right thing, she worked hard, led with her talent and carved out a space for herself nobody else could occupy. I’m so excited to see The Joker tomorrow night with my friend. I don’t care about the reviews and I don’t care if it isn’t a smash success, I care about Gaga delivering an incredible performance. I have loved Harlequin (and her performance tonight was incredible!) but the fact she can release this as LG6.5 and be this creatively free is a BLESSING and a reflection of her power in the industry after 15+ years. This is an album she can release with no massive commercial pressure, which previously she enjoyed with Tony. Regardless of how The Joker performs I’m telling you that ASIB and The Joker: Folie à Deux will no doubt make up 2/3’s of the highest performing musicals of the past 10 years (Shoutout to La La Land). That alone speaks to Gaga’s talent and LEGACY. Gaga has another hit with DWAS, I’m sure she will have at least one hit with LG7 - but she isn’t going to be Sabrina Carpenter and we shouldn’t want that. I am so excited to hear Gaga talk about how much she experimented with her voice in the album and I can’t wait for a “pop” record that doesn’t reflect the current top 40 and doesn’t try to conform. Right now Gaga is building a legacy. It’s something other contemporaries have failed to do. They have tried and failed to rehash past success instead of creating a unique lane for them to continue to find success. Gaga will continue to perform, star in movies and release great albums because she has found a niche in pop culture that nobody else can touch. She has been in this industry over a decade, she is still booked and busy and she will continue to be precisely because she isn’t following trends and instead found her niche. None of her contemporaries can do what Gaga is doing and when all is said and done, 30 years from now, when you retroactively look back on the work of all of these artists out - Gaga is going to stand out and appear for more interesting then any other artist that came up with her. Please - ENJOY this era, enjoy this moment in time and enjoy the music, the performances, the movies and the fashion! Enjoy the success she sees when it happens, but also know that at this point she’s already made it, it’s not something she needs to chase. I love following the career of an artist I have such a deep respect and admiration for and that little queer boy I once was is still inside of me, he sees what makes Gaga special. He just doesn’t care anymore about whether top 40 does. Who is Gaga? A rare, once in a lifetime kind of talent who releases projects unlike anyone else from her generation precisely BECAUSE she is different and special. That doesn’t always lead to #1 on-trend smash hits or billion dollar box office events… but it does bring consistency, longevity and a hell of a legacy. Blessed that I get to experience the ride.65 points

14 years of being her fan and I'm still struck by how she makes singing look so effortless She sounds exactly like the studio version but in a way that's refreshing and alive50 points

I've always thought the phrasing of 'Best New Artist' needs to change because people will always argue if someone is 'new' or not. 'Best Breakthrough Artist' would be much better imo41 points

She's just absolutely beaming atm! Fans better embrace her with all the love and support going forwards.36 points

Yall im shaking Am i being dramatic or was this one of her best vocal performances of all time? She wasn’t “flat” on a SINGLE note like she usually is (SUCH a nitpick, happens like for 2-3 notes on some songs) She started off with a soft voice and has never sounded so soft before Then her transition to GROWLING was soooo good Like… I’m stunned - Im embarrassed to mention the flat note thing bc it’s literally so minor but her voice was so perfect it’s shocking. UGHH i cannot beLIEVE32 points

I think it's about time this fanbase stops perceiving her success (or lack thereof) as something that will "affect us" in any capacity. Her achievements aren't "ours", and neither are her "failures". She's beyond rich, I think she can survive jumping on a project that was artistically stimulating for her, even if it doesn't do as well on the box office. She had #1 albums, #1 songs, Grammys, an Oscar, etc. If the Joker project isn't a hit with the audience, and the album she recorded for it never enters the top 10... it's fine . You're giving stan Twitter way too much power, other fanbases "dragging" us on social media is such a non issue, lol. Like, I could understand that mentality when we were all teens, but we're literally geriatric now, we are WAY too old, to care whether or not Taylor stans on Twitter laugh at her chart placements. Like, who cares? . It is such an exhausting way to experience an artist's work. Constantly focusing on how other people perceive it, whether it is accepted by the masses or not, etc. She's not an emerging artist anymore, she's got nothing to prove. If one of her project flops, whatever, is not like she's struggling to pay rent . She took a risk with Joker, critics do not seem to be on board with it, life goes on, is not that deep, lol.22 points

I think this needs a proper topic since some are having problems with her getting less screen time. Just watched it hours ago. Some critics/people lied about not having original song. Also, unfair they gave the film negative reviews just because of Gaga being underused. 1st, there is an original song and it was elegant & beautiful. 2nd, Lee was felt almost the entire film, of course Arthur has more scenes since it is his story, but Lee was ESSENTIAL. This is not a professional opinion but I would spend a whole day discussing to Warner it would be unfair if Gaga is campaigned "supporting" just because of lesser screen time than Joaquin or maybe she has more chances winning "supporting" than "lead." Before watching this film, I liked the idea of her being campaigned for supporting due to "more chances of winning" but i changed my mind, she deserves LEAD nomination for what she did. And I am sorry, i apologize to Lady Gaga for doubting her prowess just because of the early reviews. Overall, I think this is her best film, above A Star Is Born, Joker 2 is heaviest and most impactful. A LOT OF TRIGGER WARNING, although this was already obvious on the 1st film, but sequel is way way way more trigger warning. Please be careful & take care of yourselves before & after watching this movie. PERSONAL RANKING: Film as a whole 1. Joker 2 2. A Star Is Born 3. House Of Gucci Gaga's acting 1. Joker 2 2. House Of Gucci 3. A Star Is Born Congrats Gaga and Happy October Monsters. A great & special year indeed.21 points

I don’t understand. I don't understand how the **** I’ve been a fan of this woman since 2008 and she still manages to blow me away. This performance is beyond. I’m so glad she released this project and I’m so excited for LG7… I’ve been thinking a lot recently about how she exploded into the music scene back in 2008. How she came with this new sound in the pop space, her writing was full of clever innuendos and metaphors, her understanding and application of theatre and performance was leagues ahead of her contemporaries and her music videos and fashion were otherworldly. I think about how she was at the absolute peak of success and how she could have stopped learning, stopped caring about improving her vocals and put out the bare minimum - enjoying the millions she made. Instead she is the embodiment of an artist who is in love with and dedicated to their craft. It is absolutely crazy that she had the NERVE to collaborate on a Jazz album with THEE Tony Bennett and sing the Sound of Music in front of THEE Julie Andrews… And to share the silver screen alongside acting powerhouses like Bradley Cooper, Adam Driver and Joaquin Pheonix??? Batshit insane. But she pulls it off because she works so incredibly hard and is such a professional and it shows. Back in 2008-2010 didn’t think it was possible to be impressed or love this woman’s work more than I did for TF/TFM but I see her in the music video for Die With a Smile and I’m captivated. I listen to Harlequin and I’m blown away. I watch a performance like this and I start to tear up. This is what an artist that has been performing and working at the HIGHEST level for over 15 years looks like and it is the most incredible thing to witness.16 points

Do you guys realize that rotten movies come in every actor's career. All the big actors, no matter how great or legendary have had movies in their careers that have been bad, disastrous, lukewarm, disappointing, critically panned, you say the word. You cannot expect every project to be creme de la creme or highly successful. It's a part of growing and continuing as an artist. Let Gaga have her CV built in acting. She's done only three films and and she should continue to take risks. I hope she takes up small independent roles next, without male leads. She's big enough to pull an audience if the movie is good.15 points

You can literally hear her breath in the mic (1:14, 1.26, 1:42, etc). She was even a bit late on the first "Iiii" of the chorus, so there is no "playback" here (as someone said lmao). I think there a little of delay between the video and her vocals and that made it look like she wasn't singing live. But as WE ALL KNOW she doesn't do that.15 points

Thats Better than the studio vocals. The feminine dress with her growling. How She hunches down tò control her voice tò residt the air in the soft parts, She was really in control of her voice. She Just won me all over again This performance needs To her viral. Damn the Song Is almost perfect until the bridge. Could be her next shallow otherwise15 points

Guys there's very few people outside this fanbase that will listen to an accompanying album when the movie isn't even out yet. Especially with barely any drum roll or promotion. Even people in the fanbase won't listen cuz it's not pop and mostly jazz covers and some fans dont consider it a Gaga album. The numbers are pretty expected to me . This album isn't meant to be a hit cuz it would definitely clash with the lead single also coming this month.11 points
