Let's just face it...Gaga's held to a much higher standard than most of her peers and the industry. She just can't seem to win or catch a break with whatever she puts out. It's annoying because Gaga is a once-in-a-lifetime artist and talent like hers is taken too much for granted especially in a time where true artistry is extremely rare. Also if Taylor Swift or Beyoncé or literally anyone else dropped this body of work, it would be critically acclaimed and lauded. Personally, I'm just glad Gaga is happy and has found joy in creating music and art again. That's really all that matters to me as a fan.78 points

I’ve felt this way a long time, and the release of the exceptional Harlequin has only further cemented my belief that Gaga is held, in my opinion, to almost ridiculously high standards that often feels very unfair in some reviews of her work. With all due respect, I could almost guarantee that 95% of other major pop acts releasing an album this vocally and instrumentally masterful would be universally lauded, but the fact Gaga gets a “Yes We Know She Can Sing and do Jazz” in a review is very interesting to me. I truly think some take her level of skill for granted these days. Which actually, only further cements how incredible she really is. Happy Harlequin Day everybody! ❤️51 points

Q: Your pop album arrives in February. Can you tell me how it’s different than Chromatica, and what can fans expect? Gaga: The pop album is nothing like Chromatica. It’s a completely different record. I don’t know that I’m even ready to talk about it yet, but I recognize that it’s coming out soon, and I will. What I would say is, it’s all for me. It’s meant to be ingested as a time in my life. And I’m also really excited about this idea that I don’t have to adhere to an era if I don’t want to. I can have a few going at once. That feels unhinged [laughs] and more like me or Harley. Or whoever. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/lady-Gaga-interview-harlequin-album-jazz-joker-1235109698/43 points

Chappell Roan will not survive fame... Edit: At this point I can't see her releasing new music at all, or at least for a long time.30 points

You describe the album as “LG 6.5.” Do you view this more as a Harley album, or solely a Gaga record? “I view this as both, actually. That’s kind of the way that I see all of this. It is my record. It’s a Lady Gaga record, but it’s also inspired by my character and my vision of what a woman can be. It’s why the album does not adhere to one genre. I called it “6.5” because it’s not my next studio album that’s a pop record, but it is somewhere in between, and it’s blurring the lines of pop music. As you know, my collaborator Tony Bennett, who’s no longer alive, was young singing this music. It was just pop music. And I thought it was so interesting, the songs that were chosen to create this film. I wanted to explore what this music could mean today through the lens of her.” Full Article: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/lady-Gaga-interview-harlequin-album-jazz-joker-1235109698/27 points

Gaga’s Metacritic ratings have always been fairly low. Out of her solo albums, Chromatica’s the highest and that’s at 79. TF has a 71, TFM has a 78, BTW has a 71, ARTPOP has a 61, and Joanne has a 67. They’re all too low imo20 points

Why is it not at least an 80! I feel like this could be her strongest vocal work & strongest display of musical passion20 points

I find the backlash Chappell is getting to be both extremely confusing and way out of line. I feel terrible for her and I hope she can protect herself and her energy better moving forward.19 points

Slant Mag, known for basically rating every Gaga project since 2011 - a 50… finally gave her a positive review for Harlequin! It counts for Metacritic! This mini era really is super cute19 points

“Katy Perry is hoping her half-time show at the AFL Grand Final on Saturday will 'revive' her faltering pop career. The US pop star, 39, has high hopes the gig will help promote her recently-released 143 album which has been met with divisive reviews. However, her promotional tour is believed to have had its difficulties as Katy has reportedly banned Australian media outlets from asking her two specific questions. Katy has insisted she won't take any questions about the 'woeful reviews' of her new album. She has also reportedly banned interviewers from asking her about the highly-publicised Dr Luke controversy. Katy caused a stir by continuing to work with the producer on her new album 143, after he was locked in a decade-long legal battle with singer Kesha, 37. He sued Kesha in 2014 after she him of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, which he denied. The legal battle was ultimately settled. Following the controversy, some of Katy's fans took issue with the fact that she worked with Dr Luke on her new music, which she has lauded for being about female empowerment.”19 points

I actually have too much to say so I’m going to collect myself and come back later but. Let me just say this. Ain’t NO SINGLE ONE of her contemporaries are releasing an album like this. Not one. An album of theatre bops and show tunes by a pop star in 2024? That descends into darkness and madness in the second act? WHO DOES THIS ?! Lmao I love her and I’m so grateful for this, my first listen was a COMPLETELY beautiful and unique experience. Anyway, I’ll come back later with more intelligent thoughts. Love y’all xox17 points

We all know she will have another jazz album in her career and I think a Christmas/Holiday themed jazz album would be most ideal. A few covers of classics with 1 or 2 originals tracks. What holiday song would you like to see Gaga cover?16 points

Two things: 1: I think it's smart that this is mostly covers. If it was all original, it would potentially overshadow LG7. Plus, doing covers shares the same method as playing a character. 2: Personally, I HATE musical theater. At least contemporary musical theater, but love jazz. I find musical theater to be corny. But damn, this album is so good and blew me away. I'm impressed. The vocals are insane and it really captures a specific vibe that only Gaga can do. Ten out of ten and helps build even more hype for FAD. Brilliant album and project.16 points

After almost 20 years... This woman still sounds fresh, new, unexpected. When she was ~20 years old she said "when you think you know what Lady Gaga is, you actually don't". She really meant it. Every time she releases something, it's like a celebration. It's a moment of joy. and I absolutely adore to just explore the new music. Bobby or whoever reads this website's comments, tell Gaga that we love & thank her. 🫶15 points

This is cowardly and dumb. The more she tries to suppress the negative reviews, and Dr. Luke, the more people will remember and talk about it.15 points

I know it’s probably not her “vibe” but she needs a PR team. Let’s be real for a damn minute. She can’t be jumping on tik tok every time she sees criticism of her on the internet. You never win like that. The mob will always find a way to turn it back on you. And it will always be this way. No amount of idealism will change the fact that this is how society operates when it comes to celebrity culture. I don’t agree with her position on the politics. She seems to be very incoherent politically, but then again the majority of Americans are. She should forget all that and protect her peace so that she’s healthy enough to continue making music.13 points

Just finished my first listen of the album! Currently listening to it again while I write this review Honestly, this album is phenomenal! Listen, I understand that we all have different tastes in music and stuff, but reading this thread has got me questioning some of y'all's taste Cause I just don't understand how you could not, at the very least, appreciate how good this album is. Maybe the music itself is not something you'd listen to again, but from a purely musical perspective, it's incredible. Her vocals are insane and so versatile between each song and the production is top-notch. Also, I said this earlier today, but I was right in thinking that some of y'all really played up the jazz elements of this album. There is a lot of jazz influence, but most of the songs are not purely jazz. Most of the album is more soul, theatrical/musical, gospel, and rock to me. Jazz is certainly infused through all of that, but some of you were acting like this was C2C or L4S I would list my standouts, but to be honest, everything after Good Morning is a standout to me. I still liked Good Morning, but literally every other track hits so hard I'm so f*cking glad this project exists, and frankly, some of these songs might grow to be some of my favorite Gaga music Each cover was reimagined so well, and again, her vocals and production were top-notch. As for the originals, they were spectacular. I had high hopes for Happy Mistake especially since everyone was singing its praises. And I'll be honest, at first I was "Ok, this is good, but I'm not getting what everyone's saying," but as the track went on, it truly evolved into something tremendous. This is an album I'll continue to stream and replay, and it's the perfect companion to Joker 2. God, it's good to be a monster rn13 points
