Lady Gaga’s dazzling performance of Zizi Jeanmaire’s “Mon Truc en Plumes” (“My Thing With Feathers”) set the irreverent tone of the Olympics’ opening ceremony on Friday night. But it nearly got called off due to the rain, says Maud le Pladec, the choreographer of all Olympics and Paralympics ceremonies who worked with Gaga for many months. - “Unfortunately, it was the only [performance] that, for safety reasons, we had to pre-record late in the afternoon, once we knew for sure that it was going to rain — we had minute-by-minute updates, we had never watched the weather forecast so closely in our lives… We assessed that it was going to be too dangerous for performers, even with a few drops of rain. [Gaga] wanted to do it absolutely so we preferred to pre-record it rather than cancel it,” she says. - The choreographer says Gaga, who she described as a workhorse and a perfectionist, worked until the last moments on her vocals and legwork. She also trained for weeks in Los Angeles with several dancers who flew in from Paris. “She wanted to make a show à la Française. She puts so much effort and thought into everything she does and she has a very developed creative process.” Full Variety article here.30 points

Mmmm I hate the RDJ casting. The shift from Kang is fine. I mean, he wasn’t really working as a character anyway, and with all the Jonathan Majors stuff, I’m not surprised they shifted focus away from him. Doom is such an iconic villain so I love that they’re introducing him, but I have reservations. First of all, they’ve done nothing in the MCU to build up to Doom. He’s never been mentioned or even remotely hinted at, so they need to do the work in the upcoming movies and shows to make his presence feel organic and earned. And also, I say this as a HUUUGE MCU nerd/stan, but the RDJ casting feels like a cheap ploy. Marvel knows they’re in the weeds right now. Even though I’ve loved most of the MCU content post-Endgame, it’s clear that many people don’t. This just seems like a desperate attempt for them to be like “Hey, we know you guys are angry and frustrated with us, so here’s your favorite MCU actor playing one of the most anticipated Marvel characters! Are you happy now?!”. Hope I’m proven wrong though12 points

they have been engaged for the last 2 years, but I honestly feel that it's shitty to film her like that and then post it to everyone, she has to have the right to announce it publicly when she chooses it.11 points

This whole Paris trip has felt like such a wonderful unifying fan experience and reminds me of really happy times. Seeing Gaga look so happy and the love between her and the fans being as strong as ever is so beautiful to see. I’ve rewatched the ARUTW video so many times and it made me cry to see how at peace she looks. The French fans have been so respectful and kind I’m sure she appreciates it so much. Who knows how much longer she will stay in Paris but it’s been wonderful so far11 points
