  10. The Tortured Poets Department surpasses Whitney Houston’s 1987 album Whitney to become the only album by a woman to spend its first 12 weeks at No. 1. The latter spent all 11 of its weeks atop the list from its debut frame (June 27, 1987-dated chart). Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department captures a 12th consecutive and total week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 (dated July 20). The Tortured Poets Department earned 163,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending July 11 (up 43% — its first gain in seven weeks), according to Luminate. The album debuted atop the chart dated May 4 and has yet to yield the No. 1 slot. Of The Tortured Poets Department’s 163,000 units earned in the week ending July 11, album sales comprise 90,000 (up 154%), SEA units comprise 72,000 (down 7%, equaling 94.83 million on-demand official streams of the deluxe album’s 31 songs) and TEA units comprise 1,000 (up 7%). Of Swift’s overall album sales for the week, CD sales comprise 67,000 (up 127%), digital album download sales comprise 19,000 (up 1,266%) and vinyl sales comprise 4,000 (down 10%). The Tortured Poets Department’s overall weekly increase was bolstered in part by sales generated from Swift’s official webstore, which restocked 7 earlier-released CD variants of the album (including a signed edition). The restocked items were available to purchase for a few hours on Sunday, June 7, and shipped shortly afterwards. In addition, Swift released 3 new digital album download variants of the album on Thursday, July 11, sold exclusively in her webstore for $4.99 each, and were only available to purchase that day. Each contained the original standard 16-song album tracklist, along with one bonus live acoustic track. The Tortured Poets Department also got a boost in the latest chart’s tracking week thanks to activity generated by the July 8 release of two versions of the album’s lead single, the Post Malone-featuring “Fortnight,” to streaming services and digital retailers: a Cults remix and an acoustic rendition. https://www.billboard.com/music/chart-beat/taylor-swift-career-best-12th-week-number-one-billboard-200-tortured-poets-department-1235730713/

  11. It's a terrible music + music video and the fact that she worked with Dr Luke is also terrible. But even Kanye West who had anti-Semitic comments didn't get that much hate... I guess it's not that much a woman's world. I don't like many aspects of Katy but I hope people won't go too far in hate.

  12. Imagine how bad the situation is with Katy, when in a thread about her single floppàge, people start discussing about a retired chanteuse's last album which was released a decade ago.

  16. things that have happened since the teaser: - the UK finally and overwhelmingly voted out their Conservative government - katy perry's career ended and kesha's first independent release is slowly overtaking the nickelodeon kid's choice award winner's comeback lead single - major movie icon Shelley Duval passed away - trump had an assassination attempt - one of the new hires at my work got caught stealing food and drink dating back weeks whilst she was still on probation (and will be fired next week) you're all so concerned about other musical releases when it's clear Gaga is waiting for major global events to pass so she isn't overshadowed and sabotaged again!! she's now at a point where her only competition is mother nature herself

  18. She fumbled so bad with Never Really Over, the song peaked at 15 if I’m not wrong which was not bad at all considering her situation back then, had she actually grinded some more and promoted the song it would have been a top 5 hit because that song is fantastic and one of her best singles ever. But she was lazy and entitled, she got used to massive levels of success so if it didn’t happen by itself, she gave up and moved on to the next release... and then the next one. She’s like Cardi, both got used to always scoring nr. 1 hits so the moment a song doesn’t do that they abandon it, the hustle is just not present at all with these two...

  19. It felt like such a fumbled attempt to save face when she wasn’t gaining any traction. By the time the album was released it seemed as she gave up and said “good enough, just add those other songs to whatever scraps are here”, but weirdly changed the imagery of the album, then left. Comparing to a similar situation with Rihanna.. She was releasing singles (FourFiveSeconds, American Oxygen, Bitch Better Have My Money), until a song (Work) stuck, before executing the Anti rollout. She left the former 3 off the album, but they very much fit the theme and aesthetic of the album imagery. Rihanna had a very clear direction, and was willing to play the long game.

  23. Perry was the longest gimmick in pop music and it eventually revealed itself. Meanwhile Gaga was treated as such and relentlessly proved them wrong.

  26. A former president almost got shot, he's okay, and I couldnt care more if he actually wasnt. I would actually be more worried about hundred of innocent civilians in Gaza being murdered every day than a former president getting a cut in his ear. There's a thread about it with multiple pages + you're on a pop forum, if you're expecting people to disscuss politics you can go somewhere else.

  28. This is honestly quite strange. No matter the actual quality of the song, a single from a MPG is always pushed by a label to a point where it necessarily reaches a threshold, if only because of the forced exposure. It’s pretty clear that the label is not backing this track, no matter how much money they’ve thrown at the making of it. The cancellation of her listening party is also pointing to that.

  33. Exactly which is what she did when Never Really Over only peaked in the Top 20 of Billboard, she said it was just a buzz track not the lead but later added it in the album Smile to inflate the streaming numbers despite the track being released over 1 year before the album.
