Isn't it funny how stans called Gaga a fad for years when in reality Katy (and others) turned out to be the fads and Gaga is a legend who's about to star in a giant blockbuster19 points

Very facinating watch, she talks about the power of music, her career & litigation with Dr Luke & how to write a good pop song AND performs a brand new song. Beautiful stuff - A lot of things I really needed to hear today16 points

Maybe it’s because her authentic self is a Christian republican bigot and this is her mask16 points

guys slightly off topic but since pitchfork compared woman’s world to stupid love, Brazilian Gaga stans started buying it so it could top woman’s world on iTunes and it started a petty fan battle that’s so funny, look at Brazilian iTunes chart last night: now on topic, I didn’t think it would debut that higher, maybe all the controversy will work in her favor15 points

I'm actually shocked how far she's fallen. I feel like this wouldn't have happened if she was 1) more considerate of others 2) embraced her authentic self She has been trying way too hard to be the quirky, politically aware girl and it's not working because it's not coming from a genuine place.13 points

i mean, anyone who’s still bitter over that needs to take a look at the bigger picture. Lady Gaga is on a whole different level to Katy Perry in 2024. we’ve seen countless times since then, that Lady Gaga managed to drastically turn things around for herself, and for as much criticism as her team gets, the way they managed to turn her from the lowest point of her commercial career in 2014-2016, to a genuine streaming artist who still has a that unique ability to capture the “sales” market, is actually quite remarkable, and deserves its own appreciation. I don’t know what’s going on in Katy’s camp, but either she doesn’t care any more about hits (she clearly ****ing does, just look at the choices she’s made so far this era), or they’re genuinely scrambling behind the scenes.12 points

She also said Dr Luke was the only producer who accepted to work with her as other producers refused because she is trans... not here to blame or defend anyone though, just saying for her the situation is slightly different11 points
-
That's bs. There are millions of producers out there, many of them are open-minded or even trans themselves, and many of them a lot more talented than Dr Luke. That's just a choice.10 points

No, sorry, Katy deserves every bit of this. You don't hire a known rapist to make your women empowerment song and then get to hide behind the defense of they shouldn't talk about a female artist that way. She did this to herself, and it's absolutely completely time and appropriate for every horrible thing she's done to get laid out and aired. Even beyond the song, this video is insane. I don't doubt she perhaps intended to say something positive but we've actually got here are a bunch of things that make it look like she's inviting you to laugh at the idea of feminism. She's standing at a urinal pulling at her wedgie. She's shaking her breasts into the camera in slow motion. She's riding around in a massive truck smearing her makeup all over her face. It comes across as if she's taking the piss out of the whole idea of a woman being empowered by taking a whole bunch of tropes about men and instead putting a woman in and saying "hahaha isn't that funny and weird?" That's not empowering, and it demonstrates a strong lack of understanding what feminism's actual goals are. But I'm not surprised. Katy has proven herself to be a horrible, horrible person. Horrible people do not deserve to be treated with the same courtesy everyone else does. She degraded herself. She put all of these topics on the table. Nobody made her hire a rapist to produce her song. No one made her sexually harass a teenage boy on TV. No one made her inappropriately touch young male singers on the red carpet. No one made her promote a right wing politician and then vote for her. She did all that of her own accord and escaped judgement for a while. Now it's all coming back to bite her. There are artists, especially women who get unfairly talked about by critics and publications. Katy is not one of them. She made her bed.10 points

Honestly I'm beaming. I was a stupid love apologist when it came out and will to this day defend it. It's not her best song but it slaps, catchy, campy and fun. The right choice for a lead10 points

honestly no, the main backlash is the fact it's a "female empowerment" anthem produced by a man with a reputation for being a danger to women SL (whilst not ground breaking but also not bad) never tried to pretend to be something that it isn't, it was just a fun light hearted return to dance pop for Gaga with no other motive than to just be enjoyed the pathetic attempt at pandering is so painfully obvious with WW, that's what's turning people and critics off. nothing was actually said with the song (if you're going to be politcal, you need to SAY something) and the video did nothing but reinforce how out of touch and inauthentic Katy is10 points

She works with him willingly, like katy, nicki and others. only doja expressed her dislike of working with him and in the last album he's not even a producer. she kinda hinted that he forced her to take the pop route in previous albums and actually didn't really produce or write any song and took credit not his.9 points

Halsey's favorite music reviewer has just published an article on Katy's new single Read below --- Defying all sense of taste, the pop singer’s comeback single is too dispiriting to even approach camp. It’s abysmal. There is nobody better at committing to the bit than Katy Perry. When singing in Simlish, she puts her whole diamond into it. Her Vegas residency, launched in 2021 during the absolute nadir of her career, featured an extended setpiece in which she interacted with a giant toilet. Sometimes, the universe completes the bit for her: “The One That Got Away” was the only single from her gargantuan 2010 album Teenage Dream that didn’t reach No. 1 on the Hot 100. She is pop music’s Jenna Maroney, meeting every challenge with a vacant stare and nothing less than 150% commitment. This is Perry’s greatest strength as well as her fatal flaw. When she half-asses something, you can really tell: Rhyming “trouble” with “bubble” would be a slam-dunk on a track about a sexy foam party, but Katy wasted it on a reggae song about the dangers of technology, or whatever. But when it comes to politics, Perry just seems bored, so much so that a comeback single titled “Woman’s World” seems like a foregone conclusion. And yet, when she describes women as “so intelligent,” she sings it in this halting, unintentionally patronizing rhythm that leaves you no choice but to assume she’s being sarcastic. Now that’s a good bit. With its pulsating synths and steamroller chorus, “Woman’s World” is clearly modeled on Lady Gaga’s 2020 single “Stupid Love,” a brazen return to form that successfully launched Gaga into the second act of her career. There seems to have been a miscalculation, though: “Stupid Love” worked not because of its sound but because it took the core elements of Gaga’s music—slightly nonsensical lyrics, acid-trip concept, a general struggle with vowels—and turned them up to 11. It’s mystifying why Perry would have chosen to mount her comeback with a vaguely political song—you just get the sense that she just doesn’t really like or care about this stuff. Even if “Woman’s World” didn’t sound like its author had to have feminism explained to her by the top half of the first page of Google, its message of empowerment would have rang false, simply because it was co-written and co-produced by Dr. Luke, the producer Kesha accused, in a since-dismissed lawsuit, of sexual assault and emotional abuse—allegations he denied. It’s sincerely twisted, if unsurprising—I generally believe you have to be at least be something of an amoral hypocrite to be a celebrity or pop star, and fair play to those willing to do it—but it also reveals “Woman’s World” to be even more of a monumental catastrophe: If Perry was willing to cop the built-in bad press of making a song about women’s lib with an alleged abuser, shouldn’t the song at least be a banger? Instead, it’s unfathomably tepid, irritating at best. In the immortal words of Sister Catherine Rose Holzman, uttered moments before she died: “Katy Perry, please stop.” [] --- SL being perceived as SOTY in comparison to a new drop was not in my bingo cards for 2024 but here we are The lashings won't stop anytime soon I fear8 points

Dazed magazine also published a review and said "Woman’s World’ sounds like it was designed by a committee in a boardroom at Capitol Records whose sole objective was a sync on RuPaul’s Drag Race and generating comments of ‘you ate’ from white gays living in West Hollywood" It's bad for her (but I'm living for the lashings )8 points
