You can't really put everything down to things like YouTube stats though, especially when metrics like that vary widely based on region and demographic. Social media has also grown exponentially since One Direction broke up, so of course BTS will have more followers. While it's true that BTS have a huge fanbase, it's also true that they aren't on the same level of cultural impact and ubiquity that One Direction had, at least in the western world, as One Direction's music was inescapable at the time and they had a much longer string of hits.
