I would not defend each and every production choice on Chromatica, but I personally don't get the criticism of it (or any music really) sounding "dated." The album is heavily inspired both visually and sonically by late 90s & early 00s Eurodance, so of course it evokes sounds from a different time period..? (I'm not trying to argue by the way, I just jumped on the occasion to voice my personal lack of comprehension for that particular argument.)

She's back MAKING music, not being forced to, not letting her producers run wild and do as they please with her songs. She's back at the helm!
