She is trained in singing and dancing. TaeYeon was discovered in the 2004 SM Entertainment's 8th Annual Best Contest winning Best Singer 1st Place & Grand Award in the contest. In 2004, she was featured in The One's song "You Bring Me Joy" before debuting as a Girls' Generation member. She is a 2008 graduate of Jeonju Art High School and was awarded the school's Lifetime Achievement Award. Jessica Jessica was born in San Francisco, California in the same hospital as her fellow Girls' Generation member Tiffany. While on vacation in South Korea, she and her sister were scouted in a shopping mall by S.M Entertainment and joined the company in 2000. She trained for seven years as a trainee before debuting as part of the Korean girl group Girls' Generation. Jessica attended Korea Kent Foreign School in her teenage years. Her younger sister, Krystal, is a member of the Korean girl group f(x). They are both currently active in their groups, being signed under S.M. Entertainment. Sunny Sunny was born on May 15, 1989 in Los Angeles, California, and moved to Kuwait while she was still an infant. Her family moved to South Korea around the time of the Gulf War. She shares the same birthday with her two older sisters (Lee Eun-kyu and Lee Jin-kyu). Her father was in the college band Hwaljooro with Bae Chul-soo. She is the niece of Lee Soo Man, the founder of SM Entertainment. In 1998, Sunny entered Starlight Entertainment and became a trainee for five years before transferring to Starworld where she became a member of a duet called "Sugar" which never debuted. One of her older sisters was the manager for Sugar, but when the group disbanded, she became active in other parts of the music industry. In 2007, Sunny was recommended by the singer Ayumi, who transferred to SM Entertainment. After several months of training under SM Entertainment, Sunny debuted as a member of Girls' Generation that same year. Tiffany Tiffany was born in San Francisco, California, in the same hospital as fellow band-mate Jessica Jung. Although both born in California, the two would coincidentally end up attending and graduating from the same high school in Seoul, Korea Kent Foreign School, during their preparations for debut in the same group. Tiffany grew up in Diamond Bar, California, attending South Pointe Middle School and Diamond Bar High School. Tiffany was scouted whilst performing on stage in her home country. She was invited to audition at the SM Entertainment Starlight Casting System and joined the company on October 2004 in Los Angeles, California at age 15. Despite initial objections from her father, she recalls packing up her former life and moving to South Korea after receiving the permission to do so within three weeks of making the decision. She trained for 3 years and 7 months before debuting. Tiffany is the youngest of three siblings. Her older sister studied anthropology at Berkeley. For much of her early career when approached with the topic of mothers or family, Tiffany would often refer to her father or both parents; on a radio broadcast she stated that she missed her mother who was far away and she had not seen her in some time. However, in late 2009 she said for the first time in public that her mother had already died. She later said that her mother had died two years before she herself became a trainee, and that she is somewhat distant with her father, all of her immediate family living overseas. In August 2009 Tiffany was absent from a group filming in order to fly to the US and attend the funeral of her grandfather. HyoYeon HyoYeon was born in Incheon, South Korea on September 22, 1989. She grew up with her parents and her younger brother, Kim Min-gu. She auditioned for SM Entertainment at the age of 11 through SM 2000 Casting System. Hyoyeon said that her reason was her mother bringing her to the offices of S. M. Entertainment in the hopes of meeting H.O.T. She then danced in her audition show. In 2004, along with Super Junior's Siwon, she was sent to study Chinese in Beijing. HyoYeon was also picked as Korea's #1 Idol dancer on Star News. Yuri Yuri was born in Goyang, Gyeonggi, South Korea on December 5, 1988. She auditioned at the S.M. Entertainment Casting System and joined the company in 2001 after finishing in second place in the 2001 SM Youth Best Dancer Contest. She then underwent training for 5 years and 11 months before her debut. She graduated from Neunggok High School in 2008 and is currently attending Chung-Ang University along with fellow group member SooYoung. She and SooYoung were appointed as the university's new ambassadors on May 20, 2014. SooYoung SooYoung was born in Gwangju, Gyeonggi, South Korea on February 10, 1990. She is the younger sister of Choi Soo Jin, who is a musical actress. Her father, Choi Jungnam, is an architect as well as a manager of a contracting company. Her mother, Moon Sohee, is a housewife and has taught opera classes. SooYoung speaks fluent Korean & Japanese as well as conversational English. She was discovered on SM Casting System via the 2000 SM Open Audition. She then auditioned for the 2002 Korea-Japan Ultra Idol Duo Audition and won first place, marking her debut into the Japanese music scene with the band Route ÃŽ¸. After winning first place in the 2002 Korea-Japan Ultra Idol Duo awards, SooYoung was sent to Japan and debuted as a member of the duo Route ÃŽ¸, alongside Marina Takahashi. The band released three singles: "Waku! Waku! It's Love", "Start", and "Painting", and 3 B-Sides : Go Go Happy!!, Kimi Ni Ae Ta Kara (å›ã«Ã¤¼Å¡Ã£Ë†Ã£Å¸Ã£â€¹Ã£â€šâ€°) and Onna No Ko Magic (Ã¥¥³Ã£®Ã¥Ã£Æ’žã‚¸Ã£Æ’ƒã‚¯).The group was later disbanded in 2003. SooYoung graduated from JeongShin Women High School(Korean: ì •ì‹ ì—¬Ã¬Å¾ ê³ ë“±Ã•™êµ) in 2009 and is currently majoring in performing arts and theater at Chung-Ang University with fellow member Yuri. She was a member of a choir in JeongShin Women High School in her school days. On December 17, 2013, SooYoung and her labelmate Choi Siwon have been appointed as ambassadors for UNICEF's santa campaign to help children in need. YoonA YoonA was born on May 30, 1990,[3] in Seoul, South Korea. She was cast in 2002 SM Saturday Open Casting Audition and began to train with the other trainees under SM Entertainment in the areas of acting, singing and dancing. She has trained with SM for 7 years, after which she joined and debuted under Girls' Generation. In 2009, she graduated in Daeyoung High School and attended Dongguk University majoring in theater and music, along with fellow Girls' Generation member, SeoHyun. SeoHyun SeoHyun was born on June 28, 1991, in Seoul, South Korea. As an elementary school student, SeoHyun was discovered by a talent staff while riding in a subway train, who encouraged her to audition for SM Entertainment. In 2003, SeoHyun auditioned and joined the company under the SM Casting System. She is known for singing children's songs for her audition unlike other applicants who usually sing pop and dance songs. She attended Seoul Middle School and Daeyoung High School, then transferred to Jeonju Arts High School, from which she graduated on February 9, 2010. She currently attends Dongguk University with fellow Girls' Generation member, YoonA, majoring in acting. She is also an accomplished pianist. In 2010, SeoHyun was appointed by the Seoul Metropolitan Office as Korea's Goodwill Ambassador for Student Fitness. In 2012, SeoHyun was appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nation 2012 Yeosu Expo. On October 11, 2011, SeoHyun was inaugurated as a UNICEF envoy at Changseong-Dong, Seoul. In the past, SeoHyun has worked with UNICEF for the “Help Children in Africa†project.
