Good question, I think it might be the album name? My interior logic is that the teaser from earlier featured “IDEA1” in the capture, which reads like a song on an album called FILE DELIVERY (but, I have no substantiated idea one way or the other)

Sooo it’s called IDEA 1 indeed. But nowhere mentioned if it’s a standalone single or first single of an album?

LOVE this direction tho. Vibe wise it reminds me a bit of Onanon, because she described that song as a “Evanescence inspired track”, so always hoped she’d go a more rocky/garage route !! So excited

Good catch! Pitchfork mentioned this in their Best New Track writeup: 

Kelela’s return might surprise even her diehard fans, given how the gristly guitars that shroud the chorus resemble a sound the singer hasn’t yet touched: rock. Well, at least not in any records available to us. In a Rolling Stone interview last year, Kelela teased an album that will return to her “roots” as a musician, when she played in a progressive metal band with then-boyfriend Tosin Abasi (of Animals as Leaders). If the seismic ambient of Raven’s lead single “Washed Away” set the tone for one of the best downtempo experiments of the decade, it might be time to throw up your index and pinky fingers.

I’m not sure if that alludes toward said album release, or expounds more on the collective mystery surrounding the larger contextual nature of the song itself (is it a standalone single, is it a promo single, is it a lead single, is it to give the audience a taste (of something already set to release), is it to test the waters of the marketplace (of something still in progress, or still being curated)), etc.)—but it felt like it shed some light on the proximal situation

Thanks for sharing the Onanon nod! I had never heard the song before, but/and this vibes … it also reminds me of purity ring a bit, which also reminded me that they have a new song (“lemonlime” ?) debuting this Friday

True! That the “soon” is silent and implied on her rollouts … truly an alternative artistic approach to the pop standard (e.g. “soon:” emphasized and explicitly extensive) 

Ohh, that’s intriguing … she mentioned this in the i1 IG caption:

“born in a garage🤘🏾and written while I was reading octavia butler’s parable of the sower, ‘idea 1’ is about what it feels like to exist in this climate — the weight of being expected to witness, absorb, and speak truth at a time when the world feels like it’s unraveling. that’s a particular kind of burden Black women know intimately. this song doesn’t offer answers, it just refuses to look away.”

… which echoes Raven lyricism in a way (“Through all the labor, a raven is reborn; they tried to break her, there’s nothing here to mourn … Took all my labor, don’t tell me that I’m strong; You’ll never wake up, your silence lasts so long) … maybe a sonic segue into the new project ? But/and/also Melina Matsoukas (dir. “Beautiful, Dirty, Rich,” “Just Dance,” “Wow,” “In My Arms,” “Not Fair,” “Formation,” “We Found Love,” Queen and Slim, Insecure) was announced as the director and producer for the Parable of the Sower film adaptation (via Variety) … on the 8th, maybe Kelela’s curating / involved with the OST?

Hmmm that could be indeed !! Didnt know Melina wad imvolved. I love her work, especially Queen&Slim
