Why do radio stations shy away from playing Gaga's songs?

Gaga is not a radio artist.

Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Rihanna, these types of "artists" have music MADE for the radio.

Gaga makes pop music, but she doesn't depend on the radio for success because she has become more of a cult icon, so she can branch off and do her own thing.

It shouldn't be hard to see the difference here.

The album "Prism" for instance is basically a collage of what the radio has been playing 2011-2014.

This is a pretty lame excuse.

Is it too hard for us to accept that radios stations simply don't want to play G.U.Y. because the GP hasn't showed any significant interest on it?

On a side note, radios were extremely supportive with Applause and DWUW.

How did it help if nobody even knows about that?

Applause picked up after all that nonsense was over anyway. Katy was about ready to move on to Unconditionally by the time the radio started really using Applause

Nobody knew about the Roar/Applause stuff??

Uh, maybe where you live but it was all over the place.

I think it slowly was brought into the light, because of comparisons. People heard about it and wanted to make their own judgements, opening it up to a broader base, and then eventually gaining traction by itself.

. She can totally change things a little bit, and honestly could really experiment sometimes, but her changing her image and feel so frequently annoys the GP and even some fans tbh.

I don't like that she changes her wig daily. Back during TF/TFM it was changing but it was the same color/style .

TF - Blonde and Bangs, all lengths

TFM - Blonde/Yellow and no bangs, longer

Now with AP it's changing everyday, seashell, short BN hair, TF JD wig, Marilyn Wig, Wavy wig w/bangs, green wig, dreads.

Hasn't Gaga always been a... subpar radio artist? I don't mean any shade I just mean even in the TF/M days she didn't get much love outside of pop and even then her songs barely got 100M AI. Katy/RIhanna appeal to other stations while Gaga is pretty much top 40 only.

What she lacked in radio she made up for in digital sales (or at least that's how it was before the ARTPOP era lol).

It's not an excuse. Her music doesn't fit in with the stuff they're playing. I listen to the pop station when I'm driving and everything seems to fit into a certain structure and Gaga's music doesn't.

Gaga has become her own separate branch because of her relationship with fans and her touring force. She can sustain her own career without the radio playing her music.

We go through this with every single since Alejandro.

She's a "flop" and a "has been" until the touring numbers come out.

Touring earns a lot more money than selling a bunch of $1.29 singles

Applause did great on the radio. There are a million reasons why they aren't playing GUY and they're all fair

Disregard

You can't really say they're reluctant to play Gaga when DWUW reached the peak that it did without a video and despite that fact that it's been over a decade since anything with R.Kelly was played on pop radio. They aren't playing G.U.Y. simply because it's not a good single choice.

I don't know. I think it's a culmination of many different things. I guess it's because they're worried it might "scare off" some listeners, which is ridiculous considering it's not as though Gaga's music is anything really abstract.

There's obvious bias' against Gaga though I think. She's always the "outsider".

A guy I know who works at a radio station says it's because of her fan base.

:toofunny: That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Despite the way this fanbase is portrayed in the media, it's not worse than any of the other "stan bases".

What are some of those reasons?  I'm curious about others' thoughts on GUY.  :)

If it bothers them so much that fanbases request their favorite artists' songs then we should just stop. It's her labels' job to make sure she's getting airplay anyway, not ours.

I think it's also unfair to hate on radio, due to the fact that radio was key to the sucess of Applause & DWUW. Both had considerably high radio rate in comparison to streaming and sales.

Well I could see why some stations would be reluctant to play GUY considering its position on iTunes.

But radio was pretty nice to applause and DWUW

This, they played & support Applause & DWUW,  Why complain about it? mess!

Quark

But how are we supposed to know if the GP is interested in Gaga if the radios to want to play her songs? Also, don't most songs on the radio become hits because they are catchy?

I don't think it was a hit as much as it was catchy and got stuck in people's heads. Aside from the fans I don't really hear anything about that song. It's forgettable to the GP.

But to deny that the Roar/Applause "controversy" didn't help it pick up on radios at all is kind of blind.

I think the GP doesn't have much interest in Gaga as a whole, music included, right now. I wouldn't necessarily blame radios.

And like Gagaunsomewhat encouraged it.

Applause was played solely as a first single and the hype between that and Roar helped it get played I think. :/

deryou said, I think the fanbase is partially to blame for the overall lack of interest. I'd be pissed at the stans too if they spammed my job while the artist

It doesn't bother radio stations to get requests! They expect stans to request. Really...it is not unusual and Gaga fans are NOT close to the worst or the most persistent. A bunch of (mostly) young guys just aren't very organized or focused. ;) They can't even read a two page thread, so they aren't likely to spend hours requesting. :haha:

You should see some other stanbases and their organization behind radio requests! We look like complete amateurs compare to some of those groups.
