Memo 176
Nah, it's just a trend that even her fans are following :wtf:
tokyodisko 0
The funny thing about the try-hard label, is that a majority of the time she isn't. We've come to a time where people don't expect a lot of effort from many of today's top 40 selection. And when that happens, even the smallest hint of effort is seen as over doing it. Gaga isn't trying hard, people are just letting their musical expectations get lazy. Eh, I would have agreed if this was 2008, and while I didn't care either way for Swine at SXSW, people REALLY were off-put by it and that's entirely understandable. I've met a number of people lately who have said "I really used to liked Gaga, but ________." Nah, it's just a trend that even her fans are following Yeah, some fans are, but I don't think it is uncalled for in all instances. I am fairly objective about music and I honestly think ARTPOP let a lot of fans down- but that could have been from the overhype from Gaga.
Whispering 18,865
Part of her thing is to be a pop star though. She set the standards and a lot of people don't think she met them. I'm sure she will again sometime, but even a lot of fans were kind of iffy about the music this era. Eh, that started with the BTW era. Fans were iffy about the music of BTW. Gaga is constantly changing her sound and challenging herself, which challenges her fans. That doesn't have to be a bad thing! It's typical, though, for artists that are extremely talented, smart and want to push themselves. That means that there will be some eras I like more than others. Big deal! It's about a long term career and a journey over several years. I find that WAY more interesting than getting the same music every time or an artist who jumps on every latest trend. Molly Aphrodite 241
ENOUGH WITH THE MEDIA TALK ENOUGH WITH THE FOCUS ON NEGATIVITY AND HATRED LORD Has everyone heard that phrase "if a tree falls in the forrest when no one's around, does it make a sound"? Well - If a media outlet writes a negative article but nobody pays attention it, does it even exist? How many lessons after lessons does Gaga have to attempt to teach this fanbase before people actually get it? She is clearly in this business for the music now, not the bling, not the sales, not even the recognition. She's in it to simply make others feel good and come together. Why do we care about the media ""hating"" her? Why do we care if it's this single's fault or this era's issue or this performance's failure? Does it effect the quality of the music to you? Does it make you view Gaga any differently? N O I T S H O U L D N O T Please just breathe in through your nose, out through your mouth, put on ARTPOP, dance, be bold, be happy, and love life. That's all that matters.
Princess Die 1,864
It's always been a trend. Even before the dildo incident, everyone was hellbent on bringing her down. Nod if you wanna make love with the enemy. ❤

I've met a number of people lately who have said "I really used to liked Gaga, but ________." Which basically proves my point. Swine at SXSW was really cool, but it wasn't some groundbreaking performance, it was just different from the norm, and people hate that. Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

Gaga did jump on the EDM trend. Or tried to. lol Yeah, I do think the decline started with BTW though. Not even from that single, but the way it was presented. I actually liked the album a looooot when I first heard it. I had some low expectations from a few snippets though. I am a TF/TFM stan, so campys-xydiscohorrorsirenGa will always be my faveee. I'm sure she'll rebound eventually. Which basically proves my point. Swine at SXSW was really cool, but it wasn't some groundbreaking performance, it was just different from the norm, and people hate that. She was groundbreaking and different in 2008 too. haha And there could have been many different ways to do so without involving vomit. It was gross. Interesting, but gross. And when she was groundbreaking back then she didn't get negative backlash from people. She intrigued them, because she wrote damn good pop with a weird image. With the vomit most just thought "Well, Gaga is out of ideas." Different doesn't have to be off-putting.

Wait until the next era and you might like it better! It's not the end of the world! Skip this tour, take a break, come back in a year. Nah, not really that much hype this era, not when compared to the BTW era. Nothing was overhyped more than BTW. I'm trying to think of an album that was more hyped than that one...hmmmm

Continuing what she did in the past would have quickly fell flat as well with people. BTW was hyped, but it still kept a lot of fans around. I mean, every era some will fall off, but this has been like two exodus in a row for Gaga. I really do think a lot of it had to do with her lyrics. She used to be deep, but wrapped in pretty pretty ribbons, but now it's almost more literal in some cases and less catchy lyrically. Yeah, you intentionally missed the point with that one, but I kind of expect that. ;) Campy/Sexy Gaga was four years ago. She isn't coming back, not in that way. True artists grow and evolve and that's what Gaga has done. Luckily, for you, there are tons of campy/s-xy pop girls out there! You can now spend your time on their fan sites!! What a treat!!!! tokyodisko 0
It worked for her so extremely well only because she had the "new girl" status. Continuing what she did in the past would have quickly fell flat as well with people. She didn't need to have someone vomit on her to break boundaries. She shouldn't repeat herself, but it's a terrible idea to do something that will get basically zero positive press and expect to do well. It's not like the logical jump is from equality through music and message to injecting Boticelli into pop music to being puked on to represent expelling negativity in life. We live in a fascinating world and Gaga is a smart girl she could have done something else. But it's what she wanted, and that's why I don't think she is a victim at all. If she does that kind of thing, she will get negative reactions.

I am fairly objective about music and I honestly think ARTPOP let a lot of fans down- but that could have been from the overhype from Gaga. The hype could've been avoided, maybe not announce the title a whole year before, surprise release like Beyoncé. But still, she tried not to hype it like BTW and fans still overhyped themselves, that's their own fault, yeah Gaga has some blame too but the fans like to blame everything on Gaga
Osby 0
It's both tbh People jump on the hate bandwagon because it's easy to find fault from her as a result of BTW The others with no reason also join in This

Nah, just the natural progression of an artist. Like gaga said at SXSW: "I don't really fit in pop music in a way, but I came in through it and I'd like to think that I've changed it in some way so that you don't have to feel like you have to fit into a mold. I didn't have to fit into a mold."
