Nope.

I'm comparing them for very good reasons. It has nothing to do with creating a war between the two girls. People need to stop with this music video thing as the reason why it's so much higher. It's not even true anymore.

The thing is that Birthday didnt have the exposure GUY had. It will have it at proper time and most likely wont be so low as GUY it is right now so I dont think that comparasions are showing something at all.

GUY is in the situation where people expect for good reason to be much higher. Birthday is in different situation where her fans expect the first move from Katy s team or the second move after the announcement.

I agree that the song will be higher once the video is released or some performance, but at this very moment they are in similar scenarios. The only real major exposure GUY is getting is from radio airplay. All other exposure it had has pretty much worn off. Birthday is also only getting airplay exposure.

Birthday will be higher when it gets exposure because it's already gotten a head start with the airplay. GUY had to start at the very bottom of the barrel.

I'll try to explain this again... People freaking out about the song seriously need to calm down.

326. Lady Gaga - G.U.Y.

822. Katy Perry - Birthday

Before someone jumps down my throat about this, I'm NOT pitting Katy and Gaga against eachother. My point is that they have basically the same radio airplay and G.U.Y is basically no longer getting a boost from the video. It's getting what... Maybe 500K views a week from the US? That's nothing and a big amount of those are fans rewatching the video anyway. Katy's songs seem to always do well and even Unconditionally went top 15, so it's a good bet that Birthday will too. If we use Birthday as a way to guage how well G.U.Y is doing then you can see it's doing just fine with its measly airplay.

I'm sorry but this comparison is beyond useless aside from making delusional Gaga fans feel better about G.U.Y.'s success currently. If you want to feel equally bad about G.U.Y., just look at Glory and Gore which has consistently stayed in the top 200 but has just barely above 1 mil AI.

These comparisons aren't just useless because of Birthday's lack of MV. Katy also has another song on radio with 200m AI. Once radio drops Dark Horse and really starts spinning Birthday, it will rocket up iTunes.

Gaga is doing great artistically and bad commercially. It is what it is. Why do we constantly have to undermine other songs and artists just to justify where Gaga is at commercially? It's seriously annoying.

:applause:

Exactly! Music boards will tell you to not even expect to see a radio spin to iTunes affect until a new song gets to, at the MINIMUM, 10 million A.I. This would especially be true for singles that come later on in an album's era.

To make a somewhat long term prediction, a single really needs to be closer to the 20 million mark. (overall- including all formats)

There simply aren't enough radio listeners, who have heard G.U.Y. enough times, to base a conclusion on at this time.

You know a lot more about this: how likely is it for AC stations to pick up GUY when it's not big on Pop yet thanks to requests?

I understand what you are saying but at the same time I dont think its good to ignore the fact that Birthday will have for sure future exposure that we dont know if GUY will have it. Its simply not good where GUY it is right now not matter what comparasions we choose to do.

G.U.Y and Birthday comparisons are not accurate. For KAty it is 1000x times easier to jump 300 spots upwards than for Gaga.

GUY is selling like 2x more with the same amount of airplay  that's quite good. Don't come with the video effect, the release of the video made it go ~#150 only (with airplay just a little bit lower than the airplay we have right now)

Oh please. Lets see... Which girl is more "hot" right now"? Gaga or Lorde? And Glory and Gore could have the potential to be a #1 hit, which is NOT what I am saying about GUY. I am simply implying that people shouldn't just already assume that GUY will be a flop because it's in the 300's.

Your post is ridiculous. I've been watching the charts for many years now and the last thing I do is sugar coat things to make people feel better.

You know that Lorde had commercial for GnG?

For a song like G.U.Y...very unlikely! A song like Gypsy would be more likely to be played by AC and HAC, possibly at a higher rate before Pop, if there was strong interest shown. Gaga really isn't an artist that appeals primarily to the AC format, in the first place. (like a Groban or Buble) Some of Gaga's songs eventually crossover to AC, but that isn't her home format.

Mariano

And how exactly do you explain it's stable because of the video? Because it's getting 500K US views a week even though many of those are from fans? It makes no sense.

500K people seeing the video each week.

5 million people hearing the song each week.

It's stable because of airplay. Not much to debate lol.

the point is that the song wouldn't have gotten to top 300 without the video :rip:  Only with 5M AI it would've been as high as Birthday at best...

How is my post ridiculous? So it's perfectly acceptable to compare Gaga to Katy in every other post but when I compare her to Lorde, it's ridiculous because she's "hot" right now? And Katy isn't?

I'm sure I've been watching the charts just as long if not longer and am well acquainted with how things work. G.U.Y. should be doing better than it is. Fancy had basically the same kind of release and never fell out of the top 250. I'm not saying G.U.Y. is a definite flop. But it has an incredibly slow start and comparing Gaga's success to Perry's right now is beyond ludicrous.
