My point is that she wasn't trying.  She is writing what she wants. It's just different ways.. Sometimes she is writing it on her piano (her best songs are written this way  Brown Eyes, Speechless, The Edge of Glory, You and I)  sometimes her producer shows her a beat or part of an instrumental, sometimes she writes a song and then the producer makes it a hit (all red one songs are written by Gaga on her piano, but without the flawless production they wouldn't have been hits) ..

She said that All songs on ARTPOP are radio friendly.  She never said they were designed to be hits because this is just stupid.. they are not

Writing a catchy song (using the criteria you presented earlier) is too limiting for an artist. An artist needs to grow and the music industry needs to grow. We need more experimental music to broaden the boundaries of music, especially that of pop. We need fresh styles, beats, organizations, or simply a new musical experience. I guess that is what ARTPOP does,. People are still adjusting to these new sounds. People are so stuck to the traditional pop that it simply is very limiting.

It's how our brain works, catchy songs trigger our reward system, which makes them addictive. That's never going to change, so catchiness will ALWAYS be the major factor when it comes to hits. Not going to change.nwhat is going to change is music taste, but the biggest hits will always be catchy, perhaps there are some exceptions...

It wasn't me who presented the criteria and I totally agree with you..  But there is nothing wrong with Gaga trying (for once) to get a hit.  And most importantly, Gaga won't be able to break any bounderies if she keeps flopping.  People will give her art a chance, if she remains popular and there is interest in her...

A cathcy song doesn't need to be constructed though, if you know what I mean.

Somebody that I used to know wasn't catchy..  It took it so ****ing long to slay ..  THe first time I heard the song I was like "how is that top 10? " but then somehow it started working ..   Even Bad Romance wasn't that catchy at the beginning.. I was watching only because of the video and now I love the song and I can't believe it didn't slay me initially ...

But yeah I agree with u..  But you should be careful because catchy can be really close to generic.

And also Catchy doesn't go for everyone ..  For us  Venus is catchy, but I can bet that the GP will just see some weird sounds instead of a song.  And you think ARTPOP is catchy, whereas I can't see it at all.. I think ARTPOP can be really boring and like a total non event to the GP.

Besides being Catchy, the most important thing for a SONG is to be ANTHEMIC.  The biggest hits are anthemic.  The only songs on ARTPOP I can say are anthemic are Do What U Want and Gypsy.

Roar is anthemic ... (more like the chorus but still)

The Edge of Glory is anthemic, Bad Romance is anthemic ...

Rolling in the deep is anthemic..

I think a lot of songs in ARTPOP are catchy :manicure:

Agreed, were it not for her image and management problems there are many songs that could have been hits.
