Before performing Gypsy, Gaga said that what matters in life is how many people you touched, how many you saved. It's been a long time since someone touched me as deep as you just did. It's awful the fact that you were raped, but you try to make the best of it and this thread is the proof of it. I've read so many opinions on her puking performance, but yours was flawless. There's no counterargument. Thank you.

It's been such a strange night reading people's reactions to the performance at SXSW. There are some people who are convinced her career is somehow over, just because they did not like what they saw. There are people who feel personally offended, simply because Gaga no longer stays still in the pedestal they had built for her - but do you realize how unfair that is?

Let us not forget what this song is about. She said it before beginning to perform it. This song is about rape. This song is about taking that shame and darkness and learning to make love to it, make art out of it. So for those of you who don't "get it" and think it's "vile" (a word I saw around a lot tonight), let me explain. I am a victim of rape and I personally have lived what Gaga did on stage. You live, and suddenly someone vomits all over your essence, and leaves you so dirty, the kind of dirty you feel you can't scrub off no matter how hard you wash. It just keeps pouring all over you with every day that passes as you relive your experience over and over, willingly or unwillingly, you blame yourself, you learn to be comfortable with the vomit, because perhaps you deserved being puked on. Perhaps you were looking to get puked on. The turning point of the performance for me was that Gaga kept going. Do you see what I mean? She kept on living her music, dancing to her own beat, got back on the bull and rode it, embracing the very source of her filth.

I don't know if this will make sense to anyone, and I sincerely hope it doesn't make sense to you because you have experienced it, because truthfully nobody asks for the vomit. It just sort of finds a way to fall all over you. At the end, did you see how powerful that was? Her friends, from her past, hugged her and kissed her, never mind the fact that she was covered in someone else's vomit. That is recovery. That is the true path to healing.

All I ask is that you try to see the meaning behind all this. She is just a woman on her way to peace and comfort, like so many of us.

I'm sorry to hear you had to go through that traumatic experience. I hope you are doing well and are able to heal and move past what happened. Thank you so much for sharing your insight about what you think the performance was about. I think your thoughts are spot on with what Gaga was trying to represent. A lot of people seem to get hung up on the vomiting thinking Gaga is just trying to be shocking to get headlines and have everyone talk about her. I remember Gaga said in an interview that there is always an intention behind her work. It is unfortunate that many people do not expect much from her and the deeper meaning often get lost somewhere along the way.  The performance was supposed to be dirty, disgusting, and raw. It was supposed to make you feel uncomfortable because rape is uncomfortable and dirty and disgusting and raw. Everyone who criticized the Swine performance needs to read your post.

For those who think Gaga is glamorizing bulimia, this is definitely not her intention. The vomit isn't supposed to represent eating disorders. It represents all the disgusting feelings that Gaga has.  I can see how the performance is offensive to those with eating disorders though, which is unfortunate.

Thank you for explaining it like this.

One thing I want to say is that no matter what, you did not deserve to be puked on nor could you ever have been looking for it, be strong <3

Thank you for sharing that heart wrenching perspective, definitely adds depth to a performance many won't understand. I think people fail to see how the "shock" is meant to bring attention to something important and meaningful to her and many others. It's a tender subject that gets pushed under the rug in the music business. If there are any number of people who come away from this learning and understanding what it feels like from someone being a victim from an experience like that, it would serve its purpose and spread awareness to the subject. However, notice it takes a bit of thought and investigation from the individual to get to this point, because in most cases you cannot rely on the media for depth.

Do your own research.

YUNGVERSACE

Wow this is a beautiful post :applause: I'm so sorry you were raped, that must have been horrible and I can't even imagine how terrible that must feel. I can't believe Gaga was raped either omg that's so sad and when she said the song was about rape I was crying :( I agree with every single thing you said - a lot of people didn't like the performance because they didn't understand it, but they need to stop being so judgmental and judging things they don't understand. Anyway, thanks for sharing your story  I can't believe you had to go through something like that, but at the end of the day it made you a stronger person

You are amazing let me first say. And i know how you feel, it's hard for me to say But in past i was s-xually abused and it is a terrible thing, But you have to move forward and forget and let the past go. For me to know it's hard but life not always have answer, You just have to keep yourself safe, and know, who you are is NOT a game.

Thank you for sharing, i love you.

Bumping this thread.

I'm sorry for OP for what you've been through, you are amazing.

Does anyone else wonder how media never picked up that song is about rape?? Shouldn't that be in headlines too?

Who is the bastard who did it and is he in prison? I'm just wondering... :(

Thank you OP.

Every artist I love has songs that say what I long to know and know what I long to say. A song that speaks volumes to me might not even register for other fans.

The general public is often assumed to be ignorant, easily swayed and impervious to 'true' art. I think that's a crock. Some artists are ahead of their time but if you look at the history of art GREAT art always comes to the surface of the general public's consciousness. Sooner or later it will rise.

Maybe only a few people will understand Swine the way Gaga intended. That's okay.

I was s-xually abused as a child and I didn't have the same reaction to Swine as you did. In fact it was Gypsy that got me. Because one of the effects of that abuse was the great difficulty I have had in building or sustaining long term relationships. I find safety in wandering. I cried at Gyspy.

Weird eh!

Thanks again for your post.
