Do you think creating the "little monsters" thing was a bad idea?

Nope. Started with good intentions imo, warped into something entirely different.

Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn

Messianic is probably the best word for what I'm getting at! Doing something not only for yourself, but for a force larger than yourself, is a great motivator, but it's also a slippery slope toward self-importance, and that same self-importance among celebrities is what she once railed against. She's got a good head on her shoulders and is much more humble about it than most people would be if placed in the same situation, but you can't deny that it's all affected her ego at least a little bit. It can also be really stifling for your creativity when you know that you have to meet certain expectations from other people, and the pressure can squash one's wilder, uninhibited intuition, which is where the sweet spot is. Sometimes the best thing is to work on something as if no one is ever going to see it, to allow yourself to fail and go to somewhere you wouldn't have expected.

I was just thinking, considering her place now (or then) among fans and the general audience, she seems pretty level-headed about it. I mean, not even two years ago, and maybe even now, she was and kind of still is the biggest pop star internationally. All considering, I feel as if she used her place in fame and culture in a very good way (promoting kindness, tolerance, et cetera).

I can't imagine how it must feel, though. I mean, I guess it's different for everybody, and maybe she's handling it amazingly well, but if it were me I'd feel suffocated as fück.

3 points in and ready for more

In as much as I think it excludes casual fans.

The main problem was her management who orientated her towards teenagers too much, thereby ostracising her mainly adult audience (when she started out at least). Teens will easily and engage in adult stars, buy adults will not engage with teen/kid stars.

I like the idea. I would have prefered if she had named us just "monsters". Little monster sounds weird/Childish/cringeworthy to me... tbh. But it's great!

This thread is the perfect example of how many people in this fanbase really misunderstand/unappreciate what the meaning of "little monster" truly means.

:wtf:

I hate fans who always try to act like they're above everyone else and throw us all under the bus. That, to me, is the definition of being a fake monster

Yes. She has changed from a young, cool, smart, mysterious free b---h to a boring grandmother/teacher after she started using that "little monsters" term

By itself, there was nothing wrong with it. It was fun and clever. But I'm not a fan of what it morphed into and I don't think the direction the "monsters" phenomenon went into was a positive direction for her career. The term "Little Monster" often has very bad connotations of cultish obnoxious fans and online trolls, though of course an open-minded person knows that isn't always true most of the time.

What's more there's a pretty large demographic of people who are or would be potential fans of Lady Gaga but aren't comfortable with calling themselves "Little Monsters."

I think she's definitely risen to the occasion, but it's almost as if she's done TOO good of a job of putting her fame to good uses. She seems to take things much, much more seriously now than she used to, and you can tell it's taken a toll on her. She used to treat it like a big game, and I think that was a lot healthier and weighed less heavily than how she views it now, as an opportunity for her to sometimes literally save people's lives. Of course she does have a lot of responsibility as a role model. But she's not God, and she can't save every one. I also think that treating it as a game and pulling crazy antics just for the hell of it, like she used to, can help people too, and show them to not take things so seriously. A good sense of humor can sometimes do a better job of fighting a dark time in your life than being completely earnest about it.
