Truth 90
Even though her image was incredibly pretentious to me, I liked her songs. They were catchy and let's say "pleasant". Then I watched some performances which I found them interesting :)

GoldenNovember 455
Well, the first time I heard about "Lady Gaga", I was pretty amused by the name but did not bother looking up her music or performances. Shortly before Poker Face was released (it was still during the "Just Dance" era), I clicked on a link, because some user on a random forum said Gaga had amazing live vocals. The link led me to a video of Gagas "So You Think You Can Dance" performance. I was, literally, blown away by her. The song, the vocals, the visuals... all these things coming together pretty much made me a "casual fan" instantly. This means I liked her, but was not a real follower. After "The Fame" was released, I listened to the album and my first reaction was "OK, everything besides "Just Dance" is sh*t. I won't buy this." But I kept hearing from others how good the album is and I gave it a second chance and listened to all the songs a few times. I noticed that the sound was fresh, fun and catchy, so I bought "The Fame" and became a fan, meaning I was always looking up new music from her (including unreleased songs). At this point I looked up more and more information about her: Where does she come from, how did she get famous? And most important: What kind of human being is she? When it comes to performers I follow, I NEED to know more about what they want to achieve and how they treat other people. During my researchs I was more and more drawn into her amazing person and her social commitment. I became a real follower (or little monster) during the time between "The Fame Monster" and "Born This Way", because her message of freedom and equality is exactly what I try to achieve in my life. I am a loyal follower, I love her music and I highly respect and applaud her efforts for making the world a better place. And even if I disagree with her sometimes doesn't mean I don't like her anymore. Disagreements are part of every kind of relationship, even in a "fan and popstar" relationship. It also makes me overthink my views and question them, which is an important progress. ARTPOP did not change anything for me, the aspect of creativity through the art she is making became even stronger. And my fear that she'd drop the equality talk did not come true, she still stands for freedom and kindness, which made me respect her even more. It was not just a scheme for the BTW campaign, but it is what she truly wants. To sum it up: Her music, visuals and talent sparked my interest. Her creative work and her social commitment made me a real fan. Her Born This Way campaign made me a loyal follower or little monster (whatever you want to call it). ARTPOP made me admire her even more for her creative efforts, the music and her support of Online Kindness. It's hard to light a candle, easy to curse the dark instead. djBuffoon 12,123
I saw interesting performances and good music and wanted more of that. I got more of that. This. But as much as I appreciated her bold style and impeccable ear for melodies, what I really wanted her music to be taken to the next level. I wanted stronger musicianship, less reliance on st-st-stutters and gimmicks, and greater exploration of hardcore studio sonics. And that is what Born This Way and ARTPOP gave me. Shadow 6,632
I saw interesting performances and good music and wanted more of that. I got more of that. Indeed... I guess for me it was more complicated than that. When I first heard of Gaga, I just thought she was like every other new girl trying hard to get noticed. It was interesting to me at first, but after a while she did annoy me. I was into pop when I was younger and into MTV, but ever since pop got invaded by the whole Disney Mickey Mouse fan club... I didn't give a **** about it for a long time. I was into rock and metal, as I've said hundreds of times on this forum. I was in a dark place in 2009, working hard in college, trying to stay busy. My mother passed away in 2008, who meant the world to me. Missing her tormented my mind, so I vigorously sought ways to escape from it in my down time. Something about Gaga dying on stage really caught my eye. Now there was a girl who understood the dark side of fame and used it in her themes instead of trying to hide it in the glamour. It perked my interest, but she was strange to me at the time. I researched more about her and looked at her earlier performances. It almost seemed like her whole life was documented by cameras, but there was a fearlessness about her I respected. When I finally came across Bad Romance, it blew me away. I knew she mentioned she was into metal in a couple of her interviews. But there was Gaga, face fully shown, incorporating darker material than Paparazzi and the song had industrial elements I was all too familiar with in rock and metal. She seemed a larger than life, badass b---h who feared nothing, not shame or eyes of millions. She pushed buttons with a grin and with an intelligence I admire, from someone who keeps control of her life and commands it even when she's tied up looking at you. Unbelievable and s-xy. She kept me interested for more and I was hooked like a puppy throughout the Fame Monster era. She has evolved and changed, but I still see that aura of intelligence and confidence in her even if she seems desperate or out of her mind. She does what she wants. Don't we all want that in some degree? Do your own research.
tomsches 17,401
I liked her because she was so mysterious. Her interviews were all so weird and she was a riddle to everyone, becuse of the way she talked, dressed herelf and behaved and of course because of her music videos. She was just different than everybody else and pop music was interesting again, because it was clear that she wasnt gonna stand on stage with a beautiful red dress and sing a power ballad. She much rather pretended to bleed on stage and stuff....she WAS mysterious, but now I think she is too real, too "nice" and too "Omg I love my fans soooo much", earlier every interview was exciting and now I know she is gonna say se loves her fans a least 1000 times! Wootan 0
I never liked pop music where almost all the singers can't even sing live, but Gaga changed my opinion about it. I remember I watched the Just Dance mv and I was like "Yeah cool song, but with this amount of autotune it's pretty sure this girl can't even sing live". Then I heard Poker Face and I was like "qfqpsoigjsog so good ". And finally I watched her Cherry Tree Session and felt in love with her. Each performance meant a new way to learn things about her creativity and her craziness, but also about her amazing talent. A new performance of Poker Face or Paparazzi was like discovering a totally new song, maybe the reason why I cherish the TF era so much
Shadow 6,632
at first, I thought she was mistic. I love that. A mystic? There is something magical about her songs, isn't there even if they seem shallow? The way she stutters in songs, repeating words that pry into your mind... Do your own research. Golden Gangsta 49
I was depressed and suicidal. I was still in the closet, so I didn't have any real friends, only fake guy friends who I pretended I was straight with. I discovered Gaga, and her confidence and love for the world made me stan hard. She showed me it was okay to be me, and gave me a whole new perspective on life. Her "**** you" attitude is what made me strong and still does
