I hate that he’s such an influential designer because he’s a horrid person. 
 

His fashion used to be so good but in the last 10 years he just went to sh*t. I hope Gaga avoids the next Gala then because you know for a fact anyone who attends will be called an antisemite.

I’m sooo excited for this theme  I hope the fashion girlies who do their job at the gala are allowed to his archive and wear the most flamboyant chic and baroque dresses he’s ever designed  

Gaga has not worn his designs very often but the paparazzi DIOR rings are his creation, a very chic memorable piece from that video 

to the ones who keep bringing the 2011 incident like he’s done nothing about it y’all just want to scream loud as you ignore the fact that he got dropped of Dior, he apologized a thousand times, we went to seek mental health and went to a rabbi to look for forgiveness and to learn from his mistakes, he took years off the industry to come back in a better place

This will be a very popular, yet controversial exhibit, no doubts about it.

Anna has been championing Galliano for a very long time and they have been trying to get this exhibition to happen for years. His appointment at Margiela can also be attributed to Anna. He spent 10 years there and his last collection was a viral sensation. He recently signed on with Zara for two years. In many ways, his image within the fashion industry has been rehabilitated. Even celebs like Zendaya have already worn his designs to the MET in recent years, so I honestly don’t anticipate many boycotts.

He is a controversial figure, but remains an influential one. His past racist remarks will always follow him wherever he goes. I’m curious how they will handle his past antisemitism remarks into the exhibit though.

“What we had said to them is it would be powerful, poignant and productive if they were able to leverage it as an opportunity to teach about the reality of antisemitism, and somehow wrap into the exhibition the importance of fighting back and the dangers of antisemitism in this moment,” said Rabbi Joshua Davidson of Temple Emanu-El, a 180-year-old synagogue just a few blocks south of the Met.

Bolton, who said Galliano’s contributions to fashion’s history were “undeniable,” also said he had been considering a Galliano show since 2010, though he had not gotten serious about it until 2024. At that time, he said, both he and the museum’s board decided they needed more consideration — though he denied that the hesitation had anything to do with fears over Galliano’s past.

“For me, the larger question is not whether artistic behavior excuses transgression, but how to hold artistic achievement and ethical accountability together without allowing one to erase the other. And at a moment of heightened division, I feel the museum and myself have a real responsibility to confront these issues.”
