I love Gaga and all..... but....

Featured Posts

I find the music material to be rather good, if not great. I even consider it as a superior album in general than TF and TFM combined. The music video of Applause has been her strongest visually since Telephone. A good amount of her performances for this era are pretty much enjoyable to watch too. And for her to duet and release a remix with someone we've thought to be among her real-life rivals shows a lot to her desire to make this era a success as much as possible.

However, it just seems all of these efforts aren't enough, as reflected in the charts and the overall reception from the media. The uncertainty whether she has a confirmed promo spot in the coming months or not doesn't help either. The lack of promo and Lady Gaga is the least thing one would want to see in a same statement. But that's the unfortunate reality we've right now. The "excitement" vibe for this era, with the continued delay of the DWUW music video and the lack of a top 10 hit at the moment, has long been gone. And that's just simply disheartening for a fan rooting for her after an almost two-year absence in the charts.

Ugh such a good post!

But I agree with the OP that I feel the most distance from her I ever felt, like I'm not even a casual fan.  :noparty:

When people say they think it's Gaga's best album, I can't help but wonder, are we listening to the same album?! But we all have our different tastes, I guess. It's obvious that Gaga loves the album, and some fans love the album, but it's also obvious from all the criticism that many many fans do not like the album, and based on its sales, many many people in the GP don't like the album.

Hold on, I need to check something...

Yup, it's the same album. Make no mistake, a lot of fans love the album, and even consider it her best work. And how could many many people in the GP dislike it if they haven't even heard it? Regardless, "Applause" and "DWUW" we're very commendable hits with listeners that don't usually care for her, who's to say that they won't enjoy the rest of the singles?

Pain of fame1

This is actually my favorite album of hers. I just wish there were some more performances and that the video had come out. But I genuinely love this album.

Of course! We're all just guessing here on the forum. Who knows what could happen? And I don't have my finger on the pulse of every person who's listened to the album, but in my opinion, just judging from the amount of negativity toward the album on this site, which is supposed to be a site for people who are so obsessed about Gaga that they're willing to spend hours of their time discussing every minute detail of her career with complete strangers, it seems to me that there's at least a sizable portion of mega-fans who don't like the album. And if even mega-fans aren't happy with it, it doesn't bode well for everyone else. And I think that's reflected in the charts. It's not a perfect system, but in general, when a mainstream artist releases a good album, a lot of people will buy it. I'm not a chart-fiend and I don't really care that much what the numbers are, but I think it's a good gage for how well an album is doing. Even if people who haven't listened to the album would really love it, like you said, the fact of the matter is that for whatever reason, they're just not buying the album. Maybe I'm wrong and it has less to do with the quality of the music and more to do with Gaga's reputation in general nowadays. She's definitely at a lull in terms of popularity. I don't know. But considering most mainstream albums peak early in their release, it seems pretty doubtful that the album is going to make a huge comeback several months after its release. I think new singles from a new album would do much better. It's painful being in a MTN sort of situation and just watching a single flop around until Interscope pulls the plug on the era. But if the third single storms the charts and becomes the hit of the year, just yell, "I TOLD YOU SO!" at me in a few months, and I'll shut up about it!  :)

I think there is SOMETHING going on with Gaga. She seems so prohibited this era, and I don't understand why.

It doesn't even feel like it's an era at all tbh. It's like we are back 1 year ago when she had her hip injury & didn't communicate much. It's all strange. She seems lost...

Yea, I've kind of lost her tbh. Plus her attitude has been sucking as of late. And everything, yes, is a disorganized mess. Obviously she's having major management issues. And, in my opinion, she's also really out of touch with reality at the  moment,, and needs to come back down to planet earth. Someone needs to tell her that.

I didn't want to quote the whole response lol. The thing is, Gaga is one of the most divisive pop artists we have. It's not like she's some unknown that people are curious about. The GP knows who she is and, even if she released a masterpiece (like, in my opinion, she has done with her last two albums), they're not going to give it a shot if they don't care for her in the first place. And really, who's to say that people haven't torrented it?

As for the charts, promotion has a lot to do with it. Nearly everyone who has heard "Applause" or "DWUW", GP or fans, has responded favorably. And "Applause" did wonderfully for what is, essentially, a comeback single. "DWUW" would, and should, have done much better if only there was a video or more album promo going on in the last month. But alas, she's nowhere to be found. Hopefully, she will be more present with "Gypsy".

Yep, it is what it is. Good music is worth buying. I'd rather buy a few songs than the album and I used to think Gaga was an album artist. Oh well.

She said it herself in one of the early interviews of the ARTPOP era when Applause was being promoted, that she threw away her costumes/controversial intent, and wants to show people that she can be successful simply because of her sheer talent, and not else.

She lost a part of her drive in doing that, so that's why she's not like she was before.

She's not fierce anymore.

I don't remember that interview. When was that? What was her face paint fashions, Venus seashell bikini, art replica outfits, and that thing she did with her teeth at the Youtube Awards about if not costumes or controversial?

It says you aren't personally into the music this era. That's all it says.

There were many times I didn't know why I had bought BTW, but I feel completely different about ARTPOP.

Every fan isn't going to like every single song and every single album that ANY long term artist puts out over a period of time. It's unrealistic to expect that and it's also illogical to think an individual fan's choice means something other than a personal preference.
