It did better in SOME European countries and Oceania.

Applause did better in NA and Asia. They're pretty equal WW, I wouldn't say "far better" at all. Applause did far better in the U.S though.

US 100k+ weeks of sales for both singles:

Applause

218,000
163,000
213,000
160,000
184,000
160,000
133,000
109,000
100,000

FFS

138.000
181.000
261.000
173.000
156.000
140.000
124.000
113.000

One million difference in sales is not similar.

Maybe because Applause chart run is long time over? :rip:

It will still end up  .4/.5 million higher than 4FS. Not so similar.

I see kworb lowering their SYA sales estimations for the week ending 4/12 from 500k+ to 443k. Billboard earlier projected it to sell upwards of 400k. So I'm expecting between 410k-450k once the sales are released this week. But whether it reaches close to 500k or not, it's already safe to become this year's biggest digital song sales week by a good margin, and will only be the 51st time a digital song has ever sold over 400k in one week.

Here's the current standing of 2015's biggest digital song sales week so far and the current peak of the soon-to-be #1 SYA:

Rank / Title (Year released) / Artist / Sales / Week Ending

SYA is also only the 8th digital song released this year so far to sell over 100k, and just the 26th song overall to sell above that mark this year.

Isn't Blank Space number 1 with 503,000 copies?

Applause took about less than five months to reach 2m.

FFS has been out for two months and half, still two months and half to reach 2m and is not like the song stopped selling.

I believe 45S should be able to pass the 2M mark shortly before the album release of R8 or after it. Either way, I think it's obvious it'll hit 2M+ by the end of Q2. And with a possible tour, I honestly don't think it's impossible for it to catch up a 2.5M seller like Applause by the end of the year.

Isn't Blank Space number 1 with 503,000 copies?

Not for this year. It sold 503k for the week ending 12/28/14, which was the 2nd biggest sales week for 2014, just behind yet another TS single, SIO with its debut of 554k for the week ending 8/24/14. I guess there's the confusion because BS selling 503k during Christmas week was attributed to the Billboard chart issue date of 1/10/15 using Billboard's chart calendar year which is different to Nielsen Music's (which uses the actual calendar year as we know it).

And before I forget, while Billboard uses their own chart calendar year for chart purposes, it still follows the Nielsen Music's tracking year when it comes to reporting the year's best-selling releases, both albums and digital songs. Hence, the 2014 totals for 1989 was 3.661M and for Pharrell Williams' Happy was 6.455M even though the last Billboard issue date for the total of those was 1/10/15.

To make the distinction between the two clearer, Billboard's chart calendar is used to reflect the year's charts while Nielsen Music's tracking period is used to reflect the year's sales.

For the 45S and Applause comparison, it should be noted that Applause was having to struggle through the low holiday digital sales. If it were released at the same time as 45S, the song would have reached the 2 million mark faster.

Preview of week 15: Best-selling albums in 2015 so far, as of the week ending April 12, 2015

Note: Partial TW sales are based on the 60.48% status of HDD's Building Album Sales Chart.

Rank / Title (Year of Release) / Artist / (Partial) TW sales / LW sales / YTD sales

1. 1989 (2014) - Taylor Swift - 19,570 / 38,887 / 1,007,262 [HDD+NM]
2. If You’re Reading It’s Too Late (2015) - Drake - 11,652 / 16,454 / 821,174 [HDD+NM]

1989 is officially the first album this year to sell a million. As previously mentioned, by doing so, Taylor Swift and 1989 have now become the first artist and album respectively to sell a million for two consecutive years since Luke Bryan (2012-2013) and Adele's 21 (2011-2012).
