I use the same source for the two. Mediatraffic.

2.3 is shipments from IFPI in 2013.

anyway, hoping too for the 100M.

Mediatraffic isn't reliable, it's just another page writting by two germans. IFPI's report is real sales, not shipment: "Total sales (m)" (http://www.ifpi.org/downloads/Digital-Music-Report-2014.pdf). The real difference between ARTPOP and Prism is about 600.000 copies. But, album's sales are not the only important:

* Gaga killed every single market less than three years ago. Her next album wasn't exactly a completely worldwide success, but the tour is still selling good taking into account this.

* Katy's last tour ended in 2011, when she did not released Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection (Part of Me and Wide Awake), Part of Me: 3D and Prism (Roar, Unconditionally and Dark Horse). This is her first big tour, like Gaga's Born This Way Ball.

I'm only good at being bad

Guy what I don't understand is if Katy Perry's Prism only sold a little more than Lady Gaga why is there a huge difference in what both tours are grossing - why are more people going to Katy Perry?

Have you seen their single sales difference?

I thought albums were more important to an artists success?

Everything is important, album sales are more impressive cause it's more important to sell the whole work instead of one song alone. It's just that in 2014 singles expose the artists much more that the album. The singles get streamed on youtube and played on radio all the time + they are much cheaper. Very fewer people have access to full albums simply cause they don't bother.
