It hurts seeing DWUW at #18

Let's hope it recovers tomorrow.

It has a lot to recover from though

It's so annoying how Roar has 2 commercials right now.

Whispering

Well, tastes differ. A friend in the industry told me once: a hit will clear your history and people will forgive you ANYTHING.

I hate to say this, since I am a fan, but this record does not have any songs on it which scream HIT to me. Obviously a matter of taste. DWYW... it is nice and groovy, but doesn't deliver a PUNCH. When I hear PF, Bad Romance, hell even EOG or BTW, I get slight chills, which to me is a sign. ARTPOP doesn't.

There's a reason Applause was released first and did so well - because it did do well - it IS a very good pop song, in that regard probably the best on the record. To me, though, the production was heavy handed and it was not mixed properly. The chorus is there, but it's getting lost in the production. However, the problem with Applause was it's subject matter. Coming back with a follow-up and flat out asking for 'Applause' from GP....well.... yeah.

Do you want to know why Roar did so well? Kids. Little kids. It entered families, and parents were relieved to hear 6-7 year olds belting out a tune THEY also liked. Hence: hit. Schools, gyms, everywhere. Katie's video? Not too great, but show it to a 7 year old and they LOVE it. Very smart.

ARTPOP doesn't have a song like that and Applause while being ultra strong was never that relatable.

Applause was great in the US. It stayed in the top 5 on iTunes for weeks and weeks. Relatable? People really don't care that much in Pop music, especially when it comes to dance pop, they want catchy and fun. The only problem was that radio lagged behind. That's a label issue, not Gaga's or her management's issue. Interscope should have had radio support lined up.

Who would expect, or even want a song like Roar from Gaga? Why would Gaga write and release songs that appeal to 7 or 8 year olds? There are plenty of Disney girls around who do that! If that's what you are looking for, Gaga is not your girl. Gaga's empowerment song is BTW, which was not written for 7 year olds and conservative middle America. You are wanting Gaga to be something that she isn't.
