craig 680
Katy will be up for AOTY and maybe more next year, and eventually the sense that she'd due will get her a win. Weirdly they didn't nom Lorde for best new act, thus manipulating anyone who thought she should get something to vote for Royals as best song. Whispering 18,865
She's ahead in terms of overall digital sales. Hence, I pointed out that she's the biggest at the moment if we've to base it on the current chart positions on iTunes. I'd rather wait for the final tour receipts of PRISM and see how it'll perform compared to the tours of her contemporaries (i.e. Rihanna, LG, Bieber, or any major pop star who came in the late 2000s). And since this is purely centered to commercial success, I believe the number of GRAMMYs or awards in general other than the sales-based ones are better not to be factored in. I'm not entirely sure what the current iTunes positions and digital sales have to do with being the "biggest" artist overall. There are plenty of artists who are selling more albums (especially on a WW scale), selling out stadiums around the world and winning Grammys. Katy is at the top of her popularity meter at the current time, so I'm looking at her to be like the other top artists, both in the present and in the past 3-5 years. If she ends up selling 4 million albums in the US and grossing 180-240 million for her tour and pulls out 3 or 4 Grammys next year, then she will perhaps get that title for this current era. Maybe she will gross about 150-170 like Pink does on her tours or maybe she will sell 26 million albums WW like Adele did, but I doubt it. Maybe she will sell the kinds of numbers 1D does as far as WW album sales or sell out stadiums all over the world like they are going to do, but I doubt it. But hey, she has the #1 song on iTunes! :)

Katy will be competing with Bey and Adele in that category next year and who knows who else? I bet they were planning to nominate Lorde for BNA next year. I don't know if it will happen now. Given that this is a US Charts Discussion thread, I assumed you also have the US Charts in mind with that statement in terms of who's selling the biggest, who's performing the best on radio, and who's simply enjoying the best chart performance since the start of the 2010s. It's the reason why I brought up the possibility of her being named as Billboard's Artist of the Decade when everything's set and done.

Look back at the origins of this entire discussion: ARTPOPmess, on 26 Jan 2014 - 08:03, said: Well Gaga isn't at her peak right now. Katy is. So unless Prism goes on to sell 4M copies in the US, the tour grosses more than 200M and next year she wins 5 Grammys, we'll be fine My reply: Posted by rarigoes on Yesterday, 03:11 PM in Charts and Sales Basically this. At her peak, Katy is still mostly a singles artist. Those hit singles are giving her decent to good album numbers overall. (depending on the country) She isn't having album sales like Adele, Bey, 1D or even Gaga did at their peaks. Her tour isn't on the scale of Gaga's at her peak or at 1Ds or Bey's. She isn't showing WW dominance in album numbers and she isn't touring stadiums overseas. Unless Katy has yet to peak, and she will selling 4 million in the US and touring at 200M in the near future, then she hasn't reached the level that Gaga and some of the above artists have reached on a WW scope. Maybe next era... Even currently, as in all the current eras of artists in the past year or two, Katy still isn't the biggest. US sales only? We never confine our discussions to US sales only. We update ARTPOP with WW totals every single week. Gaga, along with the other mentioned artists, are global artists. Their impact WW is always taken into account. Why would we only look at singles? The discussions here are about album sales, both in the US and WW, and touring is often mentioned. In fact, tour sales is what started this entire discussion today. Look back and see. Guest
I think ARTPOP will be up for Pop Vocal Album next year, probably not AOTY unless things turn around this era, or Act II does well and is combined with ARTPOP.

Mills 446
Look back at the origins of this entire discussion: This is the post which I've replied: That remains to be seen. She isn't the biggest, not now and not when compared to others at their peaks. And that post of yours was in response to this remark: Thing is, Katy will keep getting bigger and bigger to a point where she's the biggest. SHE already is, kinda. But i can see Capitol making Katy the 'it' girl of the 10's or at least trying to.
