2. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Wanz, Thrift Shop (6,148,000)

It's pretty clear that radio has designated Katy Perry as THE artist they will play the most. She gets the best increases in spins and the highest audience peak of any other song, although her song was NOT the highest selling of the year. That's why Roar didn't stay at BB #1 for very long. Listeners weren't buying it at the rate that they bought Blurred Lines, Thrift Shop or even Royals. The radio updates and overall spins were outpacing the demand by listeners. Katy has gotten WAY, WAY more than her share of  WAY ABOVE typical support from radio to help push her singles and her album.

But it's easier for already very well-known artists to get airplay than for new artists, while new artists tend to sell much more singles.

Roar came too late in year to be highest selling. Besides, as only established artist with a huge song, you'd expect her song to peak high and fast.

Roar lost TWO weeks #1 to Blurred Line's phenomenal airplay (even the week Roar was highest selling of the year), and another TWO weeks to Miley viral video (just like Thift Shop did with Harlem Shake).

And 5 songs before it are getting dark greens so it will likely fall out of top 40 :gaga:

Slay :emma:
