If single #3 doesn't do well, that will be it for this era. They could have made a quick switch on single #1 or #2, but #3 will either work or die with the album and era. #3 is an important single, as far as album sales and marketing for the tour in the US and internationally. She's had two songs on the radio in the US and Canada, but Applause failed to do well internationally. Single #3 needs to be a hit internationally, it would help with WW album totals! One single in top 5, one in top 15, and her third single was a ballad that went number one and also did well internationally. Okay let's just forget about which is ur fave song and see from the big view here. U said that the 3rd single will define Gaga's career from now on so why would u suggest her to release a song which from first listen is nonsense, nonsense Venus nonsense goddess of love , obviously the song need few listens to grow on people + u would suggest her to release a club song referencing about penesis during the Q1 of the year which is know that thorough this period slower songs are more likeable (Stay,JGMAR, SLU etc.) Example of song that smashed/were picked during that time of the year, which suggests that people are in more mood for ballads rather than fun dance songs and we know that ballads are the songs selling album and right now we need those sales So know think objectively. Gypsy is power ballad about being in love and a lot of people are away from their close-ones and wiould relate to that song, they're in way gypsies, + the song is not usual ballad it's more close to TEOG than to Speechless because from ballad it translates to a danceable song. The lyrics are not try hard and they are literal and the song itself is really close to Y&I in a way because it is conversation btw the lyrical character and her/his lover + the last seconds of the song where she name the countries is really smart move because that makes the song with crossover appeal and it could be used in many sport commercials for example. Not only that but the song shows Gaga's vocal range a llot more than in the other songs on ARTPOP which may be good from critic point of view with a window open for best vocal performance on the grammys next year for example. Now to the part about the comments I saw above from users calling Gypsy "a katyperry esque ballad" let me first tell u that in Katy's whole career there were only 2 ballads from her released as singles and they both flopped Katy is not known for making ballads and people are not used to listen to her slow songs they are used to funny -bubblegum-pop-perry not emotional (I'm excluding here POM and TOTGA because they were fast songs and one of them had remix with b.o.b ) Intact people are more likely to see Gaga releasing ballad than Katy so please stop with that regard excuse and shading the song calling it Katy-generic-ballad bacause it's not. Even if I know that Gypsy won't end up being the 3rd single in the end I still put my money on that so g because right now would be win win situation for everyone. Then for summer hit she could release GUY with it's repetitive and addictive chorus it could become hit and after that I would be here for her to release Venus and ARTPOP as last single. American Idol wasn't on in the US in the fall. Gaga wasn't on AI the year before either. Interscope still holds the reigns at American Idol.
