FireBling 0
It's funny seeing people talk about the song and charts when they really don't know what they are talking about or understand. Things will be a little off till the 2nd week of Jan. First, Holiday song airplay effects the airplay of a lot of songs that are not in power rotation. Then when New Years hits, all the radio stations do year end countdowns where the top songs from the year get played. All of this means newer songs get less play while older songs get a bit more, and newer songs get less play while Holiday songs get more. It's hard to see the effect now, but every year around the 2nd week of Jan. U see all songs at most format make these massive airplay jumps as songs get back to normal rotation. Basically looking at radio airplay right now is pointless, come back in a couple weeks. Since airplay charts are rolling, the effects of the airplay shifts will take a while to go away. Also, we are about to enter the annual after Christmas gift card boom. Every year starting now for about a week u see a lot of older songs that were big during the year see huge surges on iTunes, because people are using their iTunes gift cards to download songs (that's why Applause is increasing while DWUW is dropping). DWUW is not really selling less, it's just others songs are selling more right now. I'm a huge chart freak, and I'm not even really paying much attention to DWUW right now because we won't have a clear idea of it's performance until a couple weeks from now. So anyone panicking and thinking the song is dead or dying or its over should really chill out. The charts are very misleading this time of the year. Dont put everyone in the same boat. We know about charts also. We have a lot of talk about strategy here and Dwuw strategy seems to a lot of people a mess. GypsyGaga 0
Yes, we all knew that today wouldn't be kind on DWUW. There's been countless comments about it and I was certainly worried about the effect today would have on it. But actually watching the song bleed on iTunes for 8 hours straight is painful, no matter what the circumstance is. Yes, there's still a chance the song can pick up big time. But the fact that it has such a long way to climb now is just a bit discouraging. One big thing I blame interscope for though is not having the album discounted on iTunes. The song would be selling much better (Applause too) if the album was $7.99 like a lot of the other big albums.
