I don't understand why the team of Gaga hasn't spend to radio a new song of ARTPOP yet. Without songs on radios... there is nothing.

How so? Don't sales and charts reflect a song's popularity in the most efficient way, one way or another? MTN failed to enter the top 10 of any major music market while DWUW did. It even entered the top 3 in Canada.

I think here u all missing the point .... like u said above BTW was the album that made Gaga from "it girl" to the "artist" And that why I think BTW was really importan choice inm her career Katy may be having #1 one after one but people will always choose to go and see Gaga perform not Katy ;)

Since 2010 Interscope are promoting Gaga as brand that is performing artist not the girl u will isten everytime u turn on the radio and that why so yearly in her career Gaga was able to make almost full stadium tour WW

And what is Katy doing with her #1's ...... she has to put her tickets for prices like $20 in order to sale arenas lol :ohwell:

idk about u guys but I will always choice having Gaga's floppage instead of having Katy's success

It's much more fun to have hizophrenia... u never get lonely

I agree about the Media.  They are all over katy and Miley while Gaga is selling close to them and she is considered a flop. And I agree that Gaga needs hit, I never said she didn't ...  It's just that Gaga had EVERYTHING, while Katy had only number 1s (good album sales also but nothing Impressive) ..

Gaga is so big because of her Single Sales, Album Sales, Tour Gross and Media Attention (which was because of all 3 + Gaga's performances, outfits etc.. ) What Gaga was in 2009-2011 no one can compare apart from Britney and Madonna.

Adele is a different case but she also cannot be compared to Katy and Rihanna ...

Katy and Rihanna are just there all the time, being successful. Nothing extraordinary ..

And I really agree with Monster,  Lady Gaga was never marketed / managed as a POP Girl that slays Radio and Charts.  She just had that success because at the time her material was the most popular, but if Gaga had the same management as Katy,  Telephone would've been a number 1 hit (they wouldn't have let it peak at number 3) , Paparazzi also,  TEOG also ...  They wouldn't have let Gaga release BTW on Friday and now she would've had the biggest first week ever, Judas would've debuted top 5 because they Wouldn't have let Gaga release it on Thursday (actually Judas wouldn't have existed but still :toofunny: )

Those record sales played a heavy role on her tour receipts and overall media recognition. And it's the reason why I'm still strongly convinced that in order for anyone to sustain success, topping the charts or at least performing well chart-wise is still a must. Otherwise, the more heavily dependent one would be to the past, the harder to move forward. But yeah, I agree that Gaga was and still is the biggest pop star of the 21st century. I'd just want for her to sustain that (and strengthen her lead) by coming up with hits that are chart-toppers.

THIS and since the beginning Gaga played the weirdo which made her interesting for the GP, then later she become performance artist that u would wanna go and see live.

Apart from Katy's #1 can u tell me something that she's more or better than her contemporaries ..... guess not

Frankly, none for now. I just agreed with Luc's post in terms how consistent chart success generally would be way beneficial in the long run, as opposed to an inconsistent one.

How so? Don't sales and charts reflect a song's popularity in the most efficient way, one way or another? MTN failed to enter the top 10 of any major music market while DWUW did. It even entered the top 3 in Canada.

It could be due to people's interest. During 2011 people were getting tired of Gaga but she still had that presence, MTN was performed everywhere and especially in Europe due to EMAs. And video is of paramount importance, it gets played on music stations and I don't know about other continents but in many places I've visited in Europe many people leave their TVs on music stations. MTN had more exposure and ( here comes an anecdotal evidence so take it with a grain of salt) the people I know can definitely remember MTN while most don't even know of DWUW. And so it's not much of a stretch to think this situation happens in other more important countries.

Exactly, it's not everything. But generally speaking, a commercial success starts everything in any kind of business. I just find sustaining equally important as to achieving if we're into the long run.

As for the artists you've mentioned, most of them have unfortunately fell flat to transcend their success beyond their breakthrough albums and/or singles. Something Gaga and her contemporaries from Katy to Bruno to even Justin Bieber have successfully done, and hence they're considered as a more successful act than others. They're able to sustain their success by coming with follow-up hits and expanding their discography in the process.
