Proceeds from the 24th annual benefit gala dinner and concert will provide essential support for MusiCares. Multi-GRAMMY-winning artists the Dixie Chicks, Lady Gaga, Bette Midler, Jason Mraz, and James Taylor will perform in her honor. King is being honored as the 2014 MusiCares Person of the Year in recognition of her extraordinary creative accomplishments as well as her significant charitable work, which has included an impressive range of philanthropic activities over the years. Carole King is a singer-songwriter, who has left a undeniable mark on music. She's in the Songwriters Hall of Fame and has been the writer or co-writer on 118 pop hits on the Billboard Hot 100. Her success as a performer in her own right, accompanying herself on the piano, came with her second solo album Tapestry, which held the record for most weeks at #1 by a female artist for more than 20 years until broken by Whitney Houston (for the soundtrack album The Bodyguard). I imagine Gaga not only greatly admires Carole, but relates to her in may ways. This tribute is something that makes sense for Gaga to be involved in. Please don't belittle this tribute, to one of the greatest female songwriters of all time, by comparing it to some silly pre- VMA outside show for tweens and teens. Sometimes I forgot that she is back, it seems to me to be back at pre-ARTPOP silence. I am surprise about Shakira-Rih single I thought a better result. We'll see with video and 'The Voice'. Flop? No way! It did very well on iTunes during the album release week and people are here for ballads, in general. It just wasn't going to pull another Wrecking Ball with the masturbation video. The "watch and see the Disney Girl go bad" fascination is still there, but it is fading. By next era, people won't care if Miley is spread eagle showing her vag during a video.
