Whispering

Look, it's quite simple.

Songs are like this:

1) I feel pretty awesome/hot, I wanna dance catchy (Just Dance for ex.)

2) Inspiring/uplifiting

3) I feel you (feels, general stuff, love, heartbreak, hope etc)

I never said Applause is a bad song. I said, in pop terms, it's the most commercial song on the record, and is closest to #1 - BUT - in terms of the subject matter, it's just not that relatable. It's a song about craving, yes, Applause. It's something you release, IMO, as your last single. It's going to be the last song in her live set, probably, too, and it makes sense.

My point about 7 year olds was not that she should make songs for them. My point was to explain why it was not a huge hit like Roar, and those are just facts.

A lot of people I know who are not fans were a bit puzzled by Applause, even though they liked the song.

A lot of people I know love Applause.

The single was relatable in the US, where a majority of people enjoy the "Applause". Its the American mindset, where individualism is both encouraged and glorified. The song works in various ways, including the sports arena. The fact that it is a fun dance song with a good hook is oftentimes all it takes. People don't have to relate to every line, just the general vibe and/or concept of a song.

Mess.

Well this is how DWUW looks like it's going to end up:

US: Platinum 1,000,000

UK: Silver 200,000

Canada: 2x Platinum 160,000

The Monster is self referential, but not really. We all deal with monsters inside ourselves and inside our loved ones, too, so almost anyone can relate to that.

I jam that song because I can just as easily see myself saying what Eminem raps about, to describe my own feelings. The Monster is very easy to identify with, especially in this day in age.

I'm not buying it. Applause is suitable for sports events, beauty contests, fashion shows, anywhere there is a performer and an audience. It's quite universal. Like "There's No Business Like Show Business" and many old songs.

The Monster is even more self-referential and it's #1.

Exactly and that's why you hear it at these types of events. There are a many ways that people, in general, live for the Applause in their life. People can, and do, relate to that concept.

I have been wondering the same lately.

I did a google search about the whole thing and there are several questions in Yahoo Answer asked this year about R Kelly and the crime subject.

And some articles with detailed info written this year too.

Outside the US people don't know or care who R Kelly is. Just some black dude.

That might be an advantage. Chris Brown songs do a lot better in Europe.

Of course, plenty of Americans are turned off by a black man doing what he wants to a white girls body.

I guess the GP is not here for Gaga anymore.

DWUW doesn't define something like that

Especially when they were here for her a few months ago with a single from the same album.

The video really just needs to come out. I never thought DWUW wouldn't be a multi-platinum hit. This has been a tough song to track chart-wise. I really hope the next single is planned out and nothing changes unexpectedly.
