Flo is obsessed with drowning. She's constantly trying to re-create an experience she had as a child in her music... when she was underwater and couldn't breathe.

Why does she talk about the ocean in NLMG? Is she saying she'd rather die/drown than live without the guy? I'm doing a soundtrack project for Katniss & Peeta, and I have to connect the lyrics to them, but I don't understand what she's trying to get across using the ocean metaphors and stuff.. especially in the beginning-

Looking out from underneath,

Fractured moonlight on the sea

Reflections still look the same to me,

As before I went under.

Why does everyone see Florence as good for making Hunger Games-related tracks? I find it so interesting.

Many people have told me that What the Water Gave Me would be perfect for Hunger Games. I feel that it would, but only if the lyrics were more about water being used as a natural resource (since things in District 12 are so drastic and they appreciate food & water) rather than about life and death like WTWGM is.

Also, I feel that NLMG is about Florence accepting the water for what it is. I have a fear of swimming and drowning, so I felt that the song is about finally accepting it, especially it's location on the album after 'What the Water Gave Me'. We're alive because of water, so why fear it anymore?

I actually wanted to use Heavy In Your Arms because it works for Katniss and Peeta and its my favorite Florence song. But we were assigned chapters.. and from the chapters we had to pick like the most important paragraph. And I got the part where they're in the cave so I used NLMG. Ill upload it later so you guys can see it :D

I'm not creative, so I can't come up with meanings for anything  I love all of the different interpretations of her songs.

Didn't know she almost drowned, that's really interesting.

Here's the project..

I know it's not Steven Spielberg, but I'm not the best video editor, and for my standards, it's pretty damn good. :haha:

I don't think it has anything to do with a guy.

Personally I find it as Florence's fascination with drowning and how it must feel. I think something of the sort was expressed in the Ceremonials liner notes. Florence's fascination with drowning also shows in What The Water Gave Me, obviously.

I think Swimming is more about contrast between an emotional connection and drowning. How being with someone made her feel like she was drowning - or something like that.

Oh, and P.S. I actually don't really see any of Florence's tracks as Hunger Games tracks. I guess I never thought about it.
