Gaga Medicine 265
Am I the only one not rly excited about ARTPOP act 2? I mean it will most likely consist of ARTPOP act 1 leftovers and have no hits. How do you know that? What if she is saving the best songs?Didn't she say that she wanted to spend more time with Brooklyn Nights and Temple? :) ---------------- I really wish Nothing On (But the Radio) is released, at least on the app...The melody is such an ear worm, especially the chorus.I mean, she can change the lyrics (and the title) and the production, but keep the exactly same melody, like IWBYU-->Dope. Prometheus 1,494
They sound different. Nope. I meant demo-like. "Onion Girl" does sound different, but "In Like With You" sounds like a normal song. I just think the other song titles on ARTPOP (except for a few) sound different in an intelligent way. These just seem...meh.

elysaint 51
As much as I agree that Gaga shouldn't really care about the charts anymore, I do feel like if she wants a big hitter album, this is EXACTLY what needs to happen: A) MOVIE and ALBUM at the same time. It just makes sense, and it will give the mainstream audience a chance to remember the Gaga they can relate to, and they will understand her project more. B) Cut the bull****, COMPLETELY tone down the look. In other words.....change. The reason anybody in pop music was successful was their ability to actually change. She needs to cut out the entire avante garde, and focus on minimalism. In this case, LESS is MORE. C) Work with people who have cred in the industry. Work with William Orbit. Names that people have actually heard of. Not EDM artists. D) Tell everyone who has been around her for the past few years to leave her alone for 1 year while writing. The reason Lady Gaga is unrelatable to the mainstream, is because she hasn't related to normal people for years. Her fans are important, but they aren't going anywhere, and a 20 minute lovy-dovey backstage moment isn't giving her a taste of the real life. E) Stop pushing an agenda and live the ****ing agenda. Write an album that is completely not groundbreaking for artistic purposes but groundbreaking for the music. F) Its not surprising when Lady Gaga goes onto a long tirade about her art, and even though we know that isn't cocky, it comes off that way to a general listener. Can we get the girl back who used to love just hangin out in ****ter bars drinkin whiskey? G) Make music that makes fun of herself. When pop music becomes too serious, it isn't pop music anymore....its art student dialogue over a synthesizer. H) The reason people loved The Fame on the level that it did is for three basic reasons: It was a digestable idea to the general public, it brought out something that the industry was actually looking for, and it was catchy. ARTPOP is great, but not all the songs are catchy, the general public finds it too high brow, and EDM has already been going on for 4 years now. LASTLY) Stick to what you know. its okay to experiment, but when you start becoming a Mr. Hyde in your own laboratory, its time to know your limits and go back to the drawing board. As a fan, I'm gonna love her no matter what and understand. As an objective music listener, I can understand why things are going downhill, and its not because of idiots like Perez Hilton, its ultimately not relatable music. I think what a lot of people are failing to see is at this point to the GP it's not really about the music because they already have their pre-conceived ideas of what Lady Gaga is and sounds like, and they're just not digging it, and cannot be bothered because her fashion/antics have eclipsed her music to many. I think its truly her Image, thats larger than life and less relatable but definitely not the music. I still feel like ARTPOP is her best work yet, but many people simply won't give it a chance because of her name/persona. I told my boss about ARTPOP for months and I finally asked him what he thought and he replied "It's all hype." Turns out he never listened to it.; didn't need to , Gaga's Image is the whole connect here, and maybe it might be the Niche she's built herself in, but straights are not buying into her, even if she made the next 21. As a fan, I'm gonna love her no matter what and understand. As an objective music listener, I can understand why things are going downhill, and its not because of idiots like Perez Hilton, its ultimately not relatable music. I think it ultimately comes down to whether she's willing to play the game or not. She knows what that entails: easy on the eyes, easy on the ears and easy on the mind. People look to pop for light entertainment, and they have a low tolerance for being challenged. She got away with it before on novelty, but those days are gone and despite what she may think, crow-baring 'art' into pop is probably just not going to work if you want top tier success. Especially when you then have critics on your back for not being arty enough, simultaneously with the masses tuning out because you're too arty. You can't win that game. That doesn't mean she has to be generic, shallow and basic - she has to retain her unique selling point - but it's becoming increasingly clear that she has to tone it down. She needs the spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down, and right now said sugar isn't making the medicine easier to swallow. The ART:POP ratio probably needs to be something more like 20:80. And by 'art', I mean - waffling pretension, high brow concepts, grandiose statements, eccentrics and queerness. I agree that the way forward is evolution with minimalism. We've had 'blonde weird girl does dance/pop with costumes' for 4 albums now. What's next? She surely isn't planning on doing more of the same indefinitely, right? I know the fans demand that but I think she payed far too close attention to their requests with ARTPOP and it turned out that they didn't really know what they wanted. Probably because they're mostly teenagers who have no vision and generally think 'MORE REDONE!!111" is the solution. My major comment though is that she really should work with more experienced individuals. It's kind of crazy when you think about the fact one of the biggest popstars this side of Madonna is surrounded by producers who have minimal/no hits to their name and artsy pre-Fame friends. Hell, even the videos being shot by fashion photographers isn't the same as experienced narrative-savvy film directors. She needs to be supported by people who truly know the industry. She can't do it all herself and there is absolutely nothing wrong or exposing about being helped. It's not a case of known names, but experienced names.
