ClapDown 0
I love the instrumental, but for some reason I don't go crazy when I listen to it in full. I mean, some of the lyrics are corny but it's a nice song. Some people make it look like it's the next Bad Romance but it's not... Agreed. It's like she has a really a hammy tone in her voice, which works for some songs, but it kind of ruins the intergalactic feel. I think if she sang more like the song ARTPOP it would add a little oomph to it.
Wet Fire 7,079
I actually think it's one of the best songs on ARTPOP. I love both Venus and G.U.Y. equally. I'm a Little Venusian Bottom. Venus is quite exciting both musically and lyrically. The hooks are majestic. The "LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE" after the chorus is a legendary moment in Gaga's discography. The verses and chorus are catchy but not in a basic way which I worship. Chorus is my fav part of tge song. It's GODLY. The bridge is great too. And the vocals in tge pre-chorus are amazing. Gaga did a great job with its production. :legend:

Guest
Everyone has different tastes. I think it's one of her best songs ever. It's infectious.
Girrr 1,086
I agree that it is overrated by fans but not for your reasons. I think the chorus is one of her best, I think its catchy. The structure of the song isn't that weird. I get what she was going for and even if some people can't digest it, I don't have a problem with the structure. I do however in a way think the song is like a Kidz Bop version of Geneva Jacuzzi or other performance art driven artists such as her. Not because Gaga isn't capable of better but I think she tends to dumb herself down a lot for her main consumers and then what is a good idea becomes a disjointed one because its not as creatively and boldly odd as it could've or should've been. She has this disconnect between making something eccentric and great and making something thats commercial and appeals to everyone. She always forces herself to be caught in that limbo, so for her to have a whole concept of an album about fusing those two things together perfectly when she never seems to be able to is what makes ARTPOP the critically mixed album that it is. She couldn't veil her shortcomings under anything because thats what was center stage. I want to marry you because of this post.
Whispering 18,865
It wasn't one of my favorites, but it has really grown on me. It was one of the best songs in a live concert setting! Still don't think it would have been a good single...but who cares? It's a fun song and now I love it!

Anderson123 37,665
Agreed. I think if she sang more like the song ARTPOP it would add a little oomph to it. i was looking for a response like this just so i could quote it And I learned to tolerate the studio version. But whenever I watch these videos I get this awkward feeling.. like, is she drunk ? Why is she doing those dying cat noises ? It's like, Judas was not the best song to sing live, but Venus is EVEN worse. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9wabV04Sgk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cToyS606N_s I mean, yes. I'm so happy that Gaga produced a song by her own, and I appreciate that. She's involved in everything she does, but it's not a song I go crazy about. On the other hand, Do What U Want is just a perfect Gaga song that doesn't get the appreciation it deserves only because of the music video situation. Rollercoaster 2
The only downside is the vocal on the verses "aphrodity lady, seashell bikini" etc. It's too high and drunk sounding. Other than those bits, it's insanely god-like.

This is the true root of the problem as to why the era performed average commercially and why it received mixed reviews. On topic, I think Venus is the best song on the album and is actually underrated by many.
