Looks like it's up to Katy to get sales moving with this AMA performance if she wants radio to keep helping. Then again, Applause was very on-off with radio. On the contrary, I find it pretty much deserving. It has a great hook. Otherwise, the song wouldn't be topping almost all the major music markets in the world even if it's from Eminem and Rihanna. Their previous singles didn't fly off as successfully as TM is currently doing. Radio's pushing it so hard is merely their reaction to how well received the single is. I beg to disagree on that one, on the ground that I see no difference between a clear smash and a generic hit, assuming that you meant generic in terms of being relatable to a broad audience. I mean, wouldn't a smash hit requires to be something all-encompassing such as the songs you've mentioned? And speaking of DWUW's music video, I would prefer for a Monday release.
