BangTheGong 310
well if Gaga's artistic vision/ musical sound 5 years ago was anything like lady starlight's, she was pretty punk rock.
Nemo 4,295
Funny how she's saying she doesn't know why Madonna performed the song when it's a blatant rehash of Express Yourself. She knows that people (including Madonna) think that, to varying degrees. What Gaga means is that she doesn't know if Madonna intended her performance as a tribute, or a dis. Or perhaps both. Madonna also was coy about that. (Personally, I would've assumed it was a tribute, like all the other covers Madonna's done in concert, if it weren't for the addition of "She's Not Me" at the end, and most of all, the video backdrop.) Didymus 34,380
Excuse me what? she is she is only on the pop bussines for the fame, have you ever listened to all The Fame album?
ManuelMonsterr 0
Sincerely, by listening ARTPOP I feel like Gaga wants to stop being seen as a Gay singer She was not at the beginning of her career... And when someone say he's a Little Monster, the first thing most of people think is 'He's gay' ! Which is reductive; I'm a big fan of Gaga and I'm not gay... preach! Excuse me what? she likes metal and rock music lol what kind of fan are you :dead:
NotherClub365 105
Yess, so happy that she said this instead of letting Madonna try to **** all over her... Also...saying that BTW sounds like Express Yourself is still reaching, the only reason that story got traction is because it seemed like they were feuding... Didymus 34,380
Well, yes, she does, but she never made punk rock I'd appreciate it if you weren't so rude to me btw. I'm a metal/rock music fan myself, so I know what I'm talking about. she likes metal and rock music lol what kind of fan are you :dead:
ManuelMonsterr 0
I'm not sure why people are getting hung up on her calling herself that. She might make pop music, but her background is heavily influenced by rock. Queen, David Bowie, Semi Precious Weapons, Luc Carl, Lady Starlight, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and more. Punk and rock form a significant slice of her musical inspiration along with jazz and pop. Well, yes, she does, but she never made punk rock I'd appreciate it if you weren't so rude to me btw. Kino1982 0
Oh, so that is why Madonna made a mash-up of those two songs? Because they're different? I see. Madonna did a mash up of "Holiday" and "One More Time". Who came for Daft Punks head?
Didymus 34,380
But she never made it and none of those artists are even associated with punk rock That's why it's so weird. I'm not sure why people are getting hung up on her calling herself that. She might make pop music, but her background is heavily influenced by rock. AgusPop 4,141
After the huge flop of MDNA, Madonna tried to promote her work by talking about Gaga in every interview and singing BTW on stage during all of her tour. Who is trying to get attention ? I mean now Madonna doesn't interest people anymore, she (and her fans) need to try to destroy other influent singers... I undestand Madonna, it must be hard to see that other artists are about to become legends...
kupo 201
I think people are taking the punk rock comment too literally. Gaga's already talked about how the scene she came from tended to favor more indie-ish singer-songwriter-y type stuff, and that's what eventually led her to wanting to sing pop and go-go dance to metal while making hair-spray fireballs. Because what is "countercultural" is entirely dependent upon context. Besides, by defining itself in relation to the dominant culture, punk is inextricably linking its identity and continued existence to the perpetuation of that dominant culture. Punk always and only exists vis-Ã -vis the culture it is supposedly rebelling against. Ergo, punk was dead before it even began, and this is a notion Gaga has openly admitted to playing with. She's punk rock in certain contexts, which is certainly the most anybody can say.
