freebit 6,240
I see Katy sticking around for a while, but in a benign Kelly Clarkson/Pink capacity, no real impact, but still cranks out some commercial hits here and there. Not someone you get excited about, but they're just kind of...there, and that's all right. Basically I see her mostly making music soccer moms can get down to. I feel like Gaga belongs to that bracket that will always be a big 'name' even if they're not doing huge commercially, like Kylie and Britney. I think she'll be like Cher when she gets older. If she comes out with something truly great within the next few years then she might get on track from icon status to legend status.
BangTheGong 310
They can't be serious though. Gaga's going to sing in space next year so yeah, no.
Slayer 9,227
Gaga has an incredible amount of talent and artistry which will carry her through the times when her popularity is waning. Katy Perry is a lovely, likable pop star and sings some really catchy songs, but she doesn't have a chance in hell of outlasting Gaga. When the quality of her singles starts to wane (and it will), she won't have much else to offer. And I'm not trashing her, because I really do like her... but she won't last. I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!

craig 680
Which comments? Gaga's Madonna and Katy's Cyndi tho It's true that vocal talent and initial critical praise have little to do with longevity in music (Which Cyndi and Xtina had to start over Madonna and Britney.) Katy is more like early Kylie, very dependent on hit machine producers. Stock-Aiken-Waterman gave Kylie 13 straight UK top 10 hits to start her career, but eventually there was a backlash against their sound and Kylie struggled for a awhile to have hits and re-invent herself. MonsterOfSpain 8,320
Comments on ATRL. I didn't see them... Gaga is just like Madonna tho so she will last long It's true that vocal talent and initial critical praise have little to do with longevity in music (Which Cyndi and Xtina had to start over Madonna and Britney.) Katy is more like early Kylie, very dependent on hit machine producers. Stock-Aiken-Waterman gave Kylie 13 straight UK top 10 hits to start her career, but eventually there was a backlash against their sound and Kylie struggled for a awhile to have hits and re-invent herself. I know for sure Gaga will last the longest, because she's got true talent and Katy is just plastic and basic.

bumblebee 2,528
Of course she needs some critics, nobody has ever denied that. But imagine for a second, what will happen to Gaga if she listens and follows every recommendation critics give her? This will completely ruin her true self. as she will vanish into the often bipolar ideas critics have about her. I do understand that to listen to everything critics say is stupid, but Gaga has clarified this question in an interview three or four years ago. She said she has some people who are not deep in the game with her, but whose opinion is very important to her. She has a circle of such people and listens to what they say and if, neccessary, changes something. This is very good. Secondly, there has never been weekly change of singles. They have only once changed Venus for Do What U Want. All the other bullsh*t we may here is only speculation. Do What U Want is a great song, but unfortunately without a video releason in time, its sales don't catch up to its stable and nice position on Top 40. Thirdly, since when are songs with s-xual and sensitive context banned from the airplay and not suitable for the masses? Explain that to Rihanna who ruled with "S&M" and "Rude Boy", "Blurred Lines" also proved to be OK. "Sexy and I Know It" by LMFAO, "Whistle" by Flo Rida, "Tonight (I'm ****in' You)" by Iglesias, "Give Me Everything", etc. The list can go on and on. Sensitive songs or tracks with s-xual subtext can easily top charts because s-x is an essential part of people's life. It's just that the radio climate in 2013 has changed strangely, and there's now a tendency for soft, more acoustic, slower songs. Gaga has slower songs on ARTPOP: Gypsy, Sexxx Dreams and GUY. They can choose anything they want to impact the radio untill the tour begins, although Gypsy seems now like the most reasonable choice. After the third single, the general climate may once again change! Maybe Gaga should herself be that change. The $25 is considered bull****. Please explain me how did that deficit occur from the business/management point of view? Gaga is OK now. ARTPOP is out for 2 months and she is over 620,000 copies in the US and over 1,500,000 worldwide, which are great numbers for her considering all the factors. She is really on par with Katy Perry, take a look: Prism is at 2,092,000 worldwide while ARTPOP is over 1,500,000. Prism has 592,000 copies advantage, but 402,000 copies of that advantage comes from the USA (1,020,000 for Prism and 618,000 for ARTPOP). Outside the US, Prism has only 190,000 copies more than ARTPOP which is not like 2 times bigger, it's OK. Please don't forget the girl doesn't have proper management, or didn't have proper management as of recent days, and it's hard to be in the industry without management. Her only challenge, in my opinion, is the fact that her image becomes more indistinct. She is re-inventing herself too often ever since Born This Way. During The Fame, for example, even though she did change visually from Just Dance to Paparazzi, there was her overall look that identified her, the so-called FameGa. During The Fame Monster, although her fashions became extravagantly extreme, there was still like a common feeling behind the way she looked, the touch of gothic influences with black-and-while horror films and rockstar badass vibe, although the play with her looks in music videos becomes more joyful and the palette expands. It's at Born This Way where something changed. She transformed so suddenly, randomly and unexpectedly from single to single that many people were left without her image for Born This Way. There's like nothing similar between the way she looked when she mentored the American Idol contestants and her 2011 Fall looks in the Thanksgiving special. Now, with ARTPOP, this seems to be happening again. I only remember the Julia Roberts hair from Applause era. She seems to be so obsessed with not letting anybody own her image or projecting her image upon her that she tries to escape creating one.
MonsterOfSpain 8,320
It's very possible. Katy is relentless and seems to take her relevancy seriously. Katy's music, lyrics and studio vocals are vanilla as hell and I don't even like them but at least they're not offputting, and she has a few undeniable hits on her album at least. It helps that she works with the best people in the business instead of (for example) amateur DJs. She's very clearly here to stay. I don't see her sabotaging her own carreer like Gaga did. Like the fact that Gaga thinks "Onion Girl" is acceptable says it all. The difference between them is: Katy wants to rule the world, Gaga seems content driving Born Brave Busses for fans It'd be such a shame if it happened, but it does seem very likely atm inb4 Onion Girl sells 10 million copies and shuts your mouth Gaga wanted to rule the world in 2009-10 and she did, and I'm sure she'll do it again if she wants to... I see the start of this with Katy's more "mature" sound and image for Prism. No more I Kissed a Girl, Peacock, or getting wasted Friday night. Burns blue wig, dates John Mayer, says Uncle is her fave song. I think Prism is still very childish, not even one explicit song on it.

Versace 8,022
No one had an entrance in Music like Gaga , She already proved herself and the world cant deny that Poker Face and Bad Romance converted Pop Music to where it is today (not low brow) if that makes sense, all Katy did was get 5 #1 singles off a basic album and suddenly she's better than Gaga yea right
craig 680
I think Prism is still very childish, not even one explicit song on it. Could easily been seen as a sign of maturity. Swearing (in many cases) is for adolescents and young males trying to prove they are big boys.
