How? He IS saying the only way to grow is through the criticism of others. Using the word "criticism" is not any different than saying "someone else's opinion." Essentially to me this is saying the only way to artistically grow is through others' perception. Am I looking at this wrong? Genuine question, no hard feelings.

what i got from the OP is that critcism is a way that can help one to detect more potential

It's the same with this fanbase. Members that go on and on about how they hate everything this era, and only cling on what she has done in the past to drag her for what she is doing now. They can't even make a post without mentioning Boomkack, Dada, and the rest of her old team. I don't understand. If you are so unsatisfied by everything. Why stay? There are plenty others to admire.

Nostalgia and hope they get to re-live it over again, setting them up for yet another dissapointment.

They are ALL right. :)

It would be cute if most of Gaga's criticism was about the quality of her music but it's not it's about her success on the charts.

It's her art... How can her art be wrong if it's to her liking? She's not talking as a pop star anymore. She's talking as an artist

Exactly.  Critics could tell her how to make things more appealing to them and to a wider audience but that's commercialism, not art.  Gaga creates her art as art, and that's how the greatest work gets created in all the artistic fields.

I live outside the space time continuum.

I agree in the sense that If its your art why do you care what critiques say? If you love it it shouldn't matter. So shes obviously insecure about it all. I don't blame critiques for not likeing an album. Its there job is to state there opinions.

Let's remember that most of the critics reviewed the album's title and not the album. With maybe a couple out-of-place references to Madonna thrown in there.

1. Most of the criticism Gaga gets is destructive, personal, or based on lack of information.

2. Of the constructive criticism, much of it is contradictory opinion.

In my line of work, I find most criticism simply tells me stuff I already know, but if it is presented aggressively it just undermines my self-confidence and makes me do worse.

I think she means she doesn't need the constant negative whiney "criticism" that she's been receiving lately. That doesn't help anyone to grow. If she took into account everything that's been critiqued about her, she would probably never grow at all.

A lot of people have been making sometimes quite malicious comments and labelling them as "constructive criticism", and it's not constructive in the slightest. I'm sure Gaga can take criticism from those who have the ability to make well-informed and intelligent critiques that don't stem from what they've read in the media or how many sales an album gets in it's 1st week.

Fan moaning about things they don't like =/= actual well-informed person who can make constructive critiques.

Also, I think her comment about bloggers was mainly directed towards Perez.

Sure, but the facts are that she's a damn popstar. Referencing Koons won't make her any artsier... its just her bigass ego getting cut down after swelling up from constant praise and enablers.

She doesn't want to be "artsy", she wants to be an artist. And she is.

She doesn't just namedrop Koons, they are personal friends, collaborators, and mutual inspirations. Same with Abramovic and possibly Robert Wilson.

Also the rumour about her being surrounded by "yes men" "enablers" is common here but based on no facts at all.

Destiny is for losers. It’s just a stupid excuse to wait for things to happen instead of making them happen
