msquare91 1
I agree, man Swine was awesome, the rest was like unreleased demo crap. I mean, wtf is MANiCURE And Aura was just the demo that everyone trashed already for being an unfinished mess The piano song was a ****ing disgrace and Sex Dreams was just a really good pop song, but nothing remarkable. ARTPOP was fun, but again, it sounded like a song Selena would make in 2011. Let's not even discuss the mess of Jewels N' Drugs. Yep, that pretty much covers how I feel. Thank you. Of course I'll reserve final judgment for the studio tracks, which are bound to sound better and more put together, but I just don't understand why everyone is worshipping these songs as if they're the second coming of Christ. I thought they were pretty awful, and definitely not something worth waiting all this time for. I have no problem whatsoever with Gaga growing as an artist, and obviously I want her to, but if she grows in a direction that I don't like, then what else am I supposed to say? Of course she can do whatever the heck she wants, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. I was hoping for her to grow more in the direction of being a fierce electro-goddess, which would KILL me with joy, but whether the songs performed are electro or rock, as they were in concert, it's easy to tell if they're fierce or not. And unfortunately, fierce they are not. This doesn't sound like the rave she promised. Edited September 2, 2013 by msquare91
Electra Jewels 0
I COMPLETELY agree with you, at one point I was literally in shock of what I was seeing, J&D is just a desperate attempt to be hip and cool again (sorry, not sorry) ARTPOP was a HUGE let down, I expected more from it, I expected dance, up beat, club banger hit, but instead I got that I was glad and upset about Aura, glad it made the cut, upset cuz it sounded exactly like the demo, And Sex Dreams is just tacky, cheesy, s-x song right from 2005, No musical potential, No artistic potential, I wouldn't dance to it, I wouldn't expect people to accept it very well, Swine was good-ish, it was the vision I had from ARTPOP, The dance pop song, EDM break down, but still not quite a good job on the production, heard it before, repetitive, but catchy, And I Wanna Be With You.. I Am not here for a ballad on a seemingly dance pop EDM album, MANiCURE was very good, listened to it several times, its fun, catchy, happy, exactly what I want from Gaga.. I am not satisfied. SpaceRenegade 0
I like all of them apart from s-x dreams. Unless there's some hidden frequency I can't hear that others can , I really don't see what the love for it is, IMO it really isn't anything special

Creyk 17,792
I loved the performances, I even love J&D. But the one song I don't like is Swine, and everyone else is praising it! And it's like...WTF? Like could someone point me to the parts that are actually good, like wtf why do I not find it enjoyable, it is just baad. And it's so weird because everyone else is praising it all the time. And I....just don't hear the good parts in it. ARTPOP and MANiCURE tho

StefJAGermanotta 2
Don't feel bad, it's NOT you. Even the Beatles had god awful songs and songs that other people hate due to differences in tastes. I love AC/DC but they have some albums that are frankly awful, but I still love them. No one can write songs that are all astounding to everyone in the world, it's frankly impossible. I mean, I literally hate all of Billy Joel's songs for some reason, but he had so many beloved hits, so there's no accounting for taste. At least you're being honest with yourself and gave the songs an honest go by listening to them TEN times, which I applaud you. If you don't like it, you don't like it, why force yourself, that's painful and not fun! Better to be honest than a delusional stan!!!! We should listen to music that we love instead of being tortured! Fortunately in my case, I love all the songs she showcased except Jewels N' Drugs. The melodies just slayed me and maybe it's because I'm not into EDM, but more rock, R&B styles, acoustic. Thanks, everyone, for your comments. It speaks well for the fanbase that the majority of the comments were kind, even though you have a different opinion. I've listened to the songs probably close to 10 times now, on a good set of headphones, and I'm still not much of a fan. But everyone has different tastes. We'll see what the rest of the album has to offer. I do really love Aura and Swine, so it seems that I'm just drawn more to the "rave"-sounding songs that she was talking about, and I'm sure there will be more on the album. I was just interested to know if there were others who felt the way I did, and it seems there are a few, so mission accomplished. It's just a bit scary when an artist you're absolutely obsessed with puts out stuff you really don't like, and it seems like you're the only one who doesn't like it, you know? Curunir 7,510
this whole thread is ungrateful and spreads so much negativity. :pukey: god, can anything satisfy you? if you don't like it, don't listen to it. we don't want to know about your negative opinions. this is a gaga fan site, not a hate site
Andy Darko 0
This drama, OP, was bound to come with fans like you watching her tour de force last night. I'm sorry that the songs didn't resonate with you to the point of not even seeming to appreciate the tiniest bit of what Gaga created last night with her sweat, her tears, her art. Not everybody was going to like it because most people and fans don't care about the "artist" part of Gaga, fair enough, but then don't fault her for performing to her heart's desire as she did. It's okay if you don't understand it or do understand it but don't want it - but to think yesterday's performance felt like a washed-up version of herself is laughable. Many people feel last night was almost her magnum opus, almost the best she has pulled off up until now over her entire brilliant career (which is saying something), people with whom I totally agree, so it's sad you couldn't feel it at all. 1) So, you feel the songs are "laughably awful" and "especially the lyrics", which are, according to you "easily the worst she has ever put out". Alright, I think you've never heard much music before. If you're trying not to be negative, like you keep saying, you're kinda going about it the wrong way, what with talking like your opinion = fact and saying it such ridiculously exaggerated ways. 2) Quoting you: "She seems so hurt, like she can barely keep herself together. I was really turned off during most of the performance because I felt like I was watching a washed-up version of Gaga perform, rather than the amazing performer I fell in love with. [...] She just seems so plagued by demons." I feel sorry for you that you experienced her performance as such, and that apparently, her giving the audience and us her all in an orgy of emotion and happiness and music (and glitter, as she'd add) went above your head or wasn't what you wanted. And that Gaga having human emotions that fuel her work turn you off somehow (???). 3) "I already made the mistake of getting excited for the lead single, the VMA performance, and for these new songs, all of which I've found to be very disappointing, particularly after waiting so patiently for so long and being told over and over that this would blow all of her previous work out of the water somehow." Ah, here we are again with "I made the mistake to get excited and have such high expectations that even she couldn't possibly reach!" (paraphrasing). Well, honey, it's not that you have high expectations (far from it), it's that you have very specific and limited expectations for an artist who just last night said she does not want to stay in that damn box anymore. She's always been a musical and artistic revolutionary and yesterday we saw her march on like a free spirit and amazing artist does. That does not make her lyrics empirically awful, or her very tightly put-together and kept-together performance with its two emotional interludes to emotional songs a washed-up, desperate performance (with Sad!Gaga being a total no-no, apparently? ) like you claim. You are saying she isn't the Gaga you fell in love with, but hadn't you ever imagined that she would evolve? She's been evolving continuously from the very beginning! She's very much still Gaga, being totally free and having the time of her life while furthering her dream and vision. Maybe it's time to seek your fix elsewhere, look to people who are less about the art or the innovation but to those who supposedly entertain (primarily the masses) with safe, artificially constructed, non-evolving - but slightly different enough not to sound like a completely broken record and very much the same in almost every other aspect so as not to scare too many people off - and muddling mediocrity that leads to high chart rankings. Calm the fudge nipples down. He does not share the same opinion as you. It is obviously his opinion. He kind of made it clear in the first post. Man. IT's amazing how Gaga preaches respect, yet some of her fans can't seem to understand you don't just lend respect and acceptance to those who share your opinions, but people who don't share your opinions as well.. Some of yall, and not specifically talking to you, but just some of you guys really idolize her like she is God, and condemn people who dislike anything she does. Of course she's not going to be able to satisfy everybody at every given second. she is not perfect. And she is not a socially perfect musician. IT happens. So when people are displeased with things she does, let it be. This is a forum to express your opinions, and if you can't handle some people's opposing opinions, then simply ignore them or get off. Stop acting like your opinion is the quintessential one. Edited September 2, 2013 by Andy Darko
Bear 7,515
I loved all the songs apart from Jewels N' Drugs, just not really my thing. But that is to be expected; she said herself she is trying to diversify into all different types of music, and so with so many different genres of music in one place it is only natural that there will be one or two songs that you don't like ;)
MJ Holland 4
I'm not, but I'm not in love with it either. You have every right not to like it, we can't all like/love it.
prince 4,688
People don't seem to understand that she is going to change, grow as an artist and can't please everyone. She isn't and is never going to be the artist she was back during The Fame or The Fame Monster or even Born This Way. If you don't like this new style you don't listen to it

What? Where could you take that the wrong way except for the last bit, which I wrote because the OP's phrasing was, let's be honest, very iffy at times? I am sad that people weren't floored like I was, which I stated. I didn't say you have to like it. But insulting Gaga like that - I am legit still confused on how Gaga supposedly being haunted by past demons and feeling potentially sad could turn you off the performance - and doing the high expectations schtick kind of diminishes the whole humble "I don't mean to be negative" veneer to the first post. They are disappointed and have a 100% right to their opinion, and I have every right to talk about what I found inappropriate in the OP's post. Nothing to do with respect, as many here can tell you, I have the utmost respect for intelligently laid-out and well-phrased views even if I'm the complete opposite. No biggie, she's gonna grow and not everybody's gonna like what she does. But to say she's basically an empty shell who wrote her most awful lyrics ever and was really sad and thus did not top her past stuff in the very least and ohmygodihadtowaitsolongforthis? Eh, no. I respect them not liking it, I cringe at the way it's expressed. Edited September 2, 2013 by Nissa
