Bad Romance xxx 1
I'm not trying to be negative here, and I really am happy for those who are in love with the new music and the direction she's taking. But speaking as a loving fan, and not as a heartless critic, I'm just not digging the new music. Like I said, I'm not trying to be negative, but I'm just curious to hear thoughts from anyone else who isn't ecstatic about the new music, because most of what I've read so far has been praise. I'm curious to know what people on the other side think. Really the only song I liked was Swine (and Aura, but we already had heard that). I found most of the other songs to be just laughably bad. I wouldn't want to listen to any of those songs more than a few times. I found the lyrics, in particular, to be just awful. Easily the worst that she has ever put out. It seemed like not only was the music different, but Gaga was as well. She seems so hurt, like she can barely keep herself together. I was really turned off during most of the performance because I felt like I was watching a washed-up version of Gaga perform, rather than the amazing performer I fell in love with. Did anyone else feel that way? She just seems so plagued by demons. I don't even want to lure myself into thinking that the studio versions will be better, because I already made the mistake of getting excited for the lead single, the VMA performance, and for these new songs, all of which I've found to be very disappointing, particularly after waiting so patiently for so long and being told over and over that this would blow all of her previous work out of the water somehow. Going into the rest of the era, I think having no expectations will be best, for me, anyway. This woman is really talented. I'm a 45/m, into hard rock/metal mostly, and she just rules my world. She's amazing. And, no, I don't feel anything like you do at all.

Gerrard174 695
they are not final version so there are still chances that the studio version will suit your taste

StefJAGermanotta 2
Hmm...I woke up this AM wondering why quite a few are underwhelmed when I find ARTPOP songs actually better than her previous eras. So, I'm thinking that if the music underwhelmed it may be because most of us watched on ipad/laptop without real speaker setup? I watched with streaming to large screen TV with real speakers. Even so, the quality of the iTunes festival sound wasn't ideal. At any rate, I found her music fantastic (except for Jewels N' Drugs which is not to my taste). Her songs had the longest melodic lines than her previous songs with R&Bish tinge and more interesting rhythm/beats which always makes for amazing music? Melody-wise, the songs were more sophisticated than her previous output? Perhaps OP and others underwhelmed can watch and listen again with better sound system or good pair of headphones, they may change their minds? msquare91 1
Thanks, everyone, for your comments. It speaks well for the fanbase that the majority of the comments were kind, even though you have a different opinion. I've listened to the songs probably close to 10 times now, on a good set of headphones, and I'm still not much of a fan. But everyone has different tastes. We'll see what the rest of the album has to offer. I do really love Aura and Swine, so it seems that I'm just drawn more to the "rave"-sounding songs that she was talking about, and I'm sure there will be more on the album. I was just interested to know if there were others who felt the way I did, and it seems there are a few, so mission accomplished. It's just a bit scary when an artist you're absolutely obsessed with puts out stuff you really don't like, and it seems like you're the only one who doesn't like it, you know? WillRhapsody 0
well it is your opinion. I would suggest waiting for the studio versions of the songs, and listen to them a few times before making a final judgment For those being rude and mean you should get out. clamchwder 0
On a standalone basis, i felt that yes although enjoyable songs its true that most of the songs have less serious less meaningful lyrics especially with the chorus of MANiCURE, Sex Dreams (which the verses were hella good, love the smokey sultry taste of the verses), ARTPOP chorus with the ARTPOP, ARTPOP, ARTPOP. I believed gaga could bring these to greater heights and more interesting spaces. Overall on the Swinefest and the new songs, it was a superb showcase. Def felt different from the previous gaga showcases and concerts. Everything seems more organic and less grided and rigid and more intimate( maybe because of the small crowd and venue) Im not too keen w J&D + Wanna Be With You, although i do enjoy the songs. If it was up to me these wouldnt make the album. The ballad doesnt have the usual gaga punch, it actually felt quite abit draggy and not progressive for me. The melody basically repeats itself over and over again. J&D just seemed like there was no point in the song at all idk but its def fun, gang$ta and catchy but ya thats it. Well i think the idea is not to pitch the new stuff with the TF TFM and BTW, because gaga obviously wants to keep progressing and experiment with new presentation for songs. Although surely we have our expectations and our favorites from past albums, I think with the new music, like gaga said to not have any pre-expectations, really helps with the disappointment. With the previous album comparisons aside and worrying about the charts aside, you can truly experience the music for what it is at that moment, together with the stage of gaga's mindset. (I super love ARTPOP, AURA and Swine. Praying for single release!) Edited September 2, 2013 by clamchwder
MelbHawker 6,583
The only thing that disappointed me was that it was less electro / choruses weren't particularly strong/banging. I was slayed for the most part.

Didymus 34,379
I agree, man Swine was awesome, the rest was like unreleased demo crap. I mean, wtf is MANiCURE And Aura was just the demo that everyone trashed already for being an unfinished mess The piano song was a ****ing disgrace and Sex Dreams was just a really good pop song, but nothing remarkable. ARTPOP was fun, but again, it sounded like a song Selena would make in 2011. Let's not even discuss the mess of Jewels N' Drugs.
