this is all screaming longevity to me :flutter:

tbh I'd probably prefer longevity than for her to hit #1 and disappear the following week. Get dat longevity

tell me you did not just use that gif

YES, longevity > peaks. Remember Swagger Jagger by Cher Lloyd? Hit #01 then disappeared 2-3 weeks later? Welp.

That's nothing compared to what happened to Bionic. It dropped to to #28 a week later :rip:

Why are you all saying #7? It's still reading #8 for me and I've refreshed kworb constantly.

She was just lucky she had no competition that week and got away with very low sales because everyone I encountered hated that track anyway, so its #1 position is completely meaningless. And it's far from the only example. I think the textbook case for why a #1 position doesn't mean huge sales, public support or longevity is a 2011 track called Promises by Nero. The only reason I remember it is because I wanted to track how this song by this unknown band that debuted at #1 would fare over the coming weeks. I'm not kidding, it completely disappeared off the top 100 after 3 weeks. And it never made a reappearance. They never had another #1 hit or even a top ten hit after that and if you say their name, people say "who?" So yes, there are songs that go to #1 because of notoriety or because they had a zero competition week or something but it doesn't mean anything in the future. Single Ladies only went to #1 in like, 2 countries or something and was a chart flop worldwide and yet, it's one of Beyonce's biggest, most iconic songs and is part of her legacy.

Weirdly enough itunes is more up to date than Kworb at the moment, and is showing Applause at #7
