Billboard: "Applause" vs. "Roar": Which new single is your favorite?

I just think that the two ARTPOP tracks we've heard (Aura and Applause) have lyrics that don't exactly coincide with their respective songs. Like the verses have almost NOTHING TO DO with the CHORUSES. This frustrates me. I want a song with lyrics that can connect easily. I can handle some stretches every now and then, but come on, Gaga.

 

I love Applause to death, but I kind of feel like she had a few budding concepts that she just mashed into one song.

There's a lot of things that go into a song becoming number 1. While iTunes position does mean a lot, it doesn't mean she won't get a number 1 on Billboard by being number 2 on iTunes, it just means it will be harder, not impossible. Even if Katy is getting constant 1.0000 updates, it just means she's selling more without putting a specific number with it, for all we know she could just be ahead by 100 copies currently but it will still have her at 1.0000 while Gaga may be at like .50234 or something., :) That's why it's also very important to keep playing the official song videos over and over again on youtube and spotify and to keep requesting it on radio.

I think the rest of the album will be more edgier, she just played it safe?

 

For example, with P!nk's new album we got a lead single that wasn't new at all, however the singles she put out after were very different (Try, Just give me a Reason) and got her way more appreciation and a huge #1 hit.

i think unfortunately gaga doesnt stand a chance this week against katy.maybe the video will help. i read on some page that katy is estimated for 500 000+ and gaga more than 200000.thats a big gap.unfortunately the vma s advantage wongo cause katy is also performing there.

yes both songs aren't as good as everyone expected.. I think that Born This Way is better than Applause ... I love Applause but BTW is an underrated masterpiece while Applause is underrated by other stan bases but overrated by monsters..

the song was either charged as a rip-off of Sara Bareilles' recent single "Brave," or it was deemed too similar to Perry's "Teenage Dream" output

. The comparisons to "Brave" are far-fetched -- "Roar" is cleaner, more precise, with a similar message of empowerment but with an arena-rock sensibility

Applause was beyond my expectations. Bye Billboard, I expected more from Katy. It could've easily fit on Teenage Dream but then not as a single, I prefer songs like Part of Me, The One That Got Away, Teenage Dream and Peacock over this by far (and now I think of it two weeks ago I saw a few peacocks and I played Peacock )
