My theory is since she's not performing at the iheartradio festival (which is run by clear channel, a company associated with many big stations like 102.7, Z100, Y100, etc.) radio isn't really promoting her. Whenever they play Bruno, Drake, Katy, or Justin, they say "and now an iheartradio performing artist!". I just think radio was a bit wary about it after seeing its initial performance on iTunes, which you really can't blame them for, but it's clear now that the song has gotten its legs, so hopefully the updates continue to get larger now. nick4bty 2,758 Posted September 6, 2013 Share Posted September 6, 2013 I know I've been a champion for Applause this whole time, and while I want the song to keep rising and doing well, I really am curious to see how Sex Dreams would perform. First of all, if Interscope passes on making this the second single, they will be making a huge mistake. Since it's clearly a song about bis-xuality, this could potentially be Gaga's next Poker Face. People loved the topic then, and they would probably love it now. There's also the fact that songs about s-x generally do well, and tend to pique the interest of the GP moreso than other songs. While the chorus is catchy, and lines like "Heard your boyfriend was away this weekend, wanna meet at my place?" are classic SexGa lyrics, the mixes we've heard so far seem rather mellow, and the instrumental does not seem to be anywhere near the awesomeness that is Poker Face. Still, I can't see any other song being the next single. Gaga and Interscope better release this and promote it endlessly to make sure it can be her next huge hit. If you read the rest of my post you'd realise that I'm a fan, and it was more a comment on the tendency of the public these days to drop all interest in ~indie/alternative~ acts after they've had one hit - maybe two if they're lucky. She videos are extremely tacky and boring and overdramatic. I can't wait till Katy washes away with the rest of artists who never bothered to evolve. This is why people think Pop music is shallow. There are too many Katy's and not enough Gaga's and Kanye's making music. The world has accepted mediocrity as "good enough". It's so sad to see creative artists who really change music being shafted while "just okay" gets praised and sells like hot cakes. And I'm sorry if this comes off as just hating Katy because she's bigger than Gaga at the moment but this is hate the fact that Katy will never evolve and become the artist that I wish she would become. Become KNOWN as something other than the pop star with big tits and catchy songs, maybe more people will respect her as an artist. One thing is for sure, Katy will never have the respect that gaga does from all kinds of artists. The Sex Dreams instrumental is about a million times better than Poker Face's, IMO. Applause is the kind of song that I claim I get tired of, only to come back to it a day or two later. I still refuse to believe that some people are living under the impression that Sex Dreams would do terribly on the radio... It's not too explicit. A song LITERALLY titled "I Touch Myself" was a top 5 hit in the early 90s. Tonight I'm ****ing You was a big hit, too... Many have also made the case regarding Rihanna's S&M, and Janet Jackson sold 20 million copies worldwide off one of the most s-xually explicit albums of her career in the early 90s. Gaga is kind of known for her "in your face without being obnoxious" attitude when it comes to her subject matter, and people usually respect her for it, as long as everything is properly balanced. Meaning the video couldn't be too weird but weird enough to keep public interest, s-xy without being outright ****, and controversial without damaging her brand in any way. It needs to be tasteful. In other words, the entire single era for Sex Dreams would need to be carefully planned, but could be the single to bring her to the top again. Among all the songs from the iTunes festival, SEX DREAMS seems to be the one to carry nice music, different sound (mid-tempo) and provocative topic. It's very different from APPLAUSE, and if the next single should be chosen from the iTunes set, SEX DREAMS and MANiCURE seem to be the only radio friendly material for singles. However, MANiCURE is very close to APPLAUSE in terms of energy, though it's more alternative/rock, it carries the pulsing vibe and adrenaline, while SEX DREAMS is more chillout and tension.
