nick4bty 2,758
how do radio stations decide how often to play songs? i would think that the first couple days would be all gaga fans requesting the song on the radio. do those requests get ignored? Audience impressions, for the most part. If a song is popular with a station's audience, it'll go into power rotation and get played usually once every 1-2 hours. Roar and Applause both had radio deals, which means it got played once at the top of every hour, but those usually only last the first day. Requesting does help, but usually the most requested songs are already the ones that are the most played. They definitely won't get ignored, especially for a new song like Applause. If the audience impressions are just okay, but the song is getting a ton of requests, they'll play it more often. So request as often as you can! leoj 2
You & I was a hit thanks to Hot AC and AC, who finally embraced her for Edge of Glory and Y&I. Before these two songs, she was Top 40 only, for the most part. So while she gained audience in these formats, she lost it completely in Top 40. And this is a major reason why Marry The Night flopped - this was not a song that Hot AC/AC would ever play, and Top 40 was reluctant to play her after EOG/Y&I underperformed, and it fizzled out early. And sadly, almost 2 years later, we're still seeing the effect. Radio stations are talking about how great it is to have Gaga back, but in reality, they're still reluctant, and it's going to take a lot of positive audience impressions to get them to fully embrace her again. I'm talking about top 40 pop... You and I peaked at #6 on the hot 100 because of the vmas and digital sales/radio play it peaked at #7 on TOP 40 marry the night fizzled because interscope dropped the song due to low digital sales, in fact the song like I said WAS RISING on top 40 until interscope dropped it as for underperforming, one can argue EDGE OF GLORY was as big a hit, if not bigger than Alejandro in the U.S, TEOG peaked at #3 behind LMFAO and katy perry, and sold nearly 3 million copies

Okay... It will flop, she's over, and the general public isn't here for anything Gaga anymore. Kay, you can leave.

If the audience impressions are just okay, but the song is getting a ton of requests, they'll play it more often. So request as often as you can! What exactly are audience impressions? Is it the public's response to the song or how many people are listening to the song at the time it's playing? Thanks for clarifying everything!
