It gets to a point where it's noticeable how insecure and shallow some of her fans are....and nothing wrong with that I guess, we all have insecurities. A lot of her fans are young and want these shallow achievements for her, that's why I feel like they're so concerned about her having success on the charts and "slaying the lessors." It gets tiring after a while though. Like why would you prefer that over her developing as an artist and having her be in control of her own vision? She'll be more happy when she's allowed to do what she wants. Why compromise happiness & greatness for mediocrity? I don't get it. Hopefully the fickle bandwagoners will leave, or at least stop b---hing. One can have hope haha!

Anyways, thanks!!! I looove Vonnegut. Have you read Slaughterhouse before? It's my favorite book of his. I still need to check out Breakfast of Champions

I agree completely. I have no interest in charts and this rivalry younger fans have between their favorite artists. I would rather her (and any songwriter/artist, really) produce songs they are happy with regardless of relevance. I wish more people could be that way. She's Lady Gaga, this album is going to be a huge success regardless of the content, so why not let her do exactly what she wants with it?

And no I haven't! I've been looking forward to it, we're opposite in the books of his we've read, haha. Breakfast of Champions is really good, especially the ending. I'm going to start reading SF soon.

The only thing silly here is Gaga fans acting like people that don't like this need to go to Katy Perry, as if that's some insult. Do people not realize Lady Gaga wasnt always this pretentious, overbearing art school kid in her work?

This video was nothing short of embarrassing and arrogant. She's trying too hard to prove she's artistic and it's just comically misguided.

No stfu enigma popstar is fun.

It's a pity that most of the fans are not open minded as they should be, especially with this upcoming era. I read FAcebook, I read Twitter adn even here the majority are like "oh no, Gaga naked", "oh no, Gaga screaming eeeeeeeeeeh", "She's so pretentious". I mean... the right time to call her "crazy" or "weird" was five years ago, three years ago... not NOW. We already know her, how is it that so many people act surprised or outraged with this video? We already saw pictures of her naked (for example the Nobuyoshi Araki photoshoot), we already saw her experimenting with artistic boundaries, I don't get why everyone isn't happy/proud with her growth as an artist. I am happy, for sure, but I see some people only follow her music or are waiting for hit records. It's a little bit sad because she's so much more than that and my perception is that the majority of the fan base and general public don't tend to see the deeper meaning she's trying to give out there.

Another thing is the ignorance... I think we all should learn to take a moment and a--lyze the video more deeply or just come up with conclusions instead of generalize and be like WTF. I think peopel are really lacking this... artistic perception, this open minded perception about her work.  :noparty:

I'm tired of people acting as if she's never been this artistic before. Yes she has, she's just also done an equal amount of commercial stuff to please her basic fans. Now with this era I feel she's ditching all of her mainstream appeal and I like that, I respect her being totally artistic. She already has the fame and power to back it up, she should be allowed to do what she wants. Also, I like your sig, I just got Slaughterhouse Five from the library and I love Breakfast of Champions.

I really do have to laugh at how a non-s-xual nude female body is causing such sudden conservative consternation in a bunch of forums populating largely by hypers-xual gays.

These can't be re-posted enough.

I feel sorry for those who are actually saying that what she's done in the past is not artistic and that only this kinds of things can be 'real art'. Congratulations, you've completely missed the point of her entire work so far.

Of mixing ART and POP together. There is no 'commercial' Gaga, and no 'art' Gaga. The album is called ARTPOP. Not ART. Not POP. I might be very wrong here, but I simply refuse to believe she is gonna ignore all the pop aspect of art. It would go against the very nature of HER work.

She's learning from Marina, this video is supporting Marina's project and Gaga is just using her star power to help promote it.

A very prominent section of Marina's artist manifesto says not to copy from another artist. I don't interpret this as taking as inspiration/reference and learning, but as having artistic integrity. Of taking something, knowledge, input, or whatnot, and translating it into a new personal form of art.

... All that to say: I really believe the VMA performance will be nothing like this video.

If some of you guys would think for more than 10 seconds and read the OP you'd figure out what she is doing.  Especially if you have any background in meditation.

^this

You can definitely tell there is a divide among Gaga fans. I'm very glad that a large percentage of the people on this site seem to understand that this isn't "promo" or something to cause a stir, it's Gaga showing us a part of her artistic regeneration, she's recharging her batteries. This is simply an advanced form of meditation and I've very happy for and proud of Gaga for doing this.

If anyone of you have tried meditation or attempted any kind of yoga (not the kind that's done simply for strength, but for relaxation), you would understand what it is that Gaga is doing. For those of you that are really confused by this video, I would suggest that you go to a yoga studio sometime and try it out, you'd definitely understand this much better and have a greater appreciation for some of the "weird" stuff like this.

What. Is. This. Mess.

Seriously.

I can't with the artsy ****. I wish I could "get" it but nope.

It's not supposed to be a performance piece, it's just meditation.

Gaga is the artist. An artist shouldn't have to censor themselves to the general public. A musician's dream is to make music, an artist's dream is to make art. She's trying to do both with this album. This is going to shock a lot of the fans, and it already has in the short amount of time this video has been released. This isn't the kind of art that i'm sure many people thought she was going to make. I don't put this preconception of Gaga in my mind because I know she's going to come in and turn it upside down. I don't want to restrict her, I want her to grow as an artist and as a musician. I personally enjoyed this video and I look forward to her collaborations with Marina and other artists.

How is meditation arrogant and embarrassing? Please, can you just stop? I understand you don't have to like everything she does, but you literally have one of the most condescending attitudes towards other people I have ever met.

And Gaga isn't all that pretentious. But if you're using the right definition for it (attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed) than I would disagree with you. I would disagree because she has always attempted to impress her audience ever since the Fame days, and she's always proven to be talented and important to her fans & to pop culture. SHE ACTUALLY POSSESSES the importance and talent and has shown this through a handful of marvelous performances and interviews.

I hope you can find some peace within yourself someday soon so you don't have to condescend other users so often and not even have the consideration to reply to their comments towards you. And this isn't my attempt to make this about "BryanDaily," it's my attempt to try to make this a more peaceful environment. We can have disagreements, but it doesn't have to be so personal and rude, like when you claim other users need to pass an IQ test before commenting on threads. That's fine if you don't like the ARTPOP Gaga, you can at least be respectful about it though.
