They always seemed cheap, plastic-y, and you could always see the seem where they were glued on. HORRIBLE costume/makeup job. To have them permanently be there would have been a poor choice. No need for a potentially dangerous cosmetic surgery like that, especially for something associated with a messy era and your past artistic work. Sometimes you kind of just wanted to be like 'haha, okay Gaga we get it, you're from an alien planet haha okay the joke is over now'. Imagine if she had them on forever...
