nick4bty 2,758
Radio is getting stranger by the day. The comparative chart runs of Right Now, Crazy Kids, and Here's to Never Growing Up are all good examples. HTNGU - even without the discount - is still selling well, and is currently at #25 on iTunes, which is where it was hovering the entire time before it got discounted. Yet it never got higher than 30 million AI, and then started dropping like a rock. It's now at 15 million AI and is still selling well. It just doesn't make sense. Same with Crazy Kids - it's a Ke$ha song, and right now it's hovering around 50 on iTunes (could be worse), yet radio just doesn't seem to want to play it. And Right Now - well, we all know what that's about. Strong radio updates but no one is buying it. Not sure if this is all bias or payola or what, but it just doesn't seem right. And there are plenty more examples that we could discuss.
VforVendetta 2,024
That video won a Grammy though. Could be the most overrated music video of all time. Literally . . . all she did was sit in a chair. The important thing is not the quantity but the quality though... This video was supporting the song perfectly, you can say that it was the ideal video for a song like this. It IS an overrated video but it definitely is also very good one... :pressed:

Americano 31,061
Well it's not all iTunes. Radio programmers rely heavily on phone calls, and not everyone calling in is a 20 year old with an iPhone. There could be a lot of different audiences saying they don't like Crazy Kids or whatever. Cherry 17
What Bryan said, plus iTunes may be a factor as well. #50-ish "could be worse", maybe, but it's not that great and it certainly doesn't show that there is significant demand for the song. Plus, programmers are probably already reluctant to play it in the first place since they took "C'mon" to top ten on pop radio when the sales just didn't match up. Once you have a single they try to back and then it falls apart, they have less of an incentive to play. Lastly, everyone needs to remember that singles are simply a means to promote albums. Ke$ha's album isn't selling, it's doing less than albums that have NO songs on the radio at all, and radio programmers do note that. They would rather play singles where it can push albums instead of singles that are kind of stagnant, and coming off of dead albums. I agree that Rihanna's increase in airplay while barely selling her album and not being in the Top 100 is rather puzzling, however. But she has momentum from 'Diamonds' and 'Stay,' so I'm not completely surprised. Edited June 27, 2013 by Americano
Cherry 17
And people shouldn't be worrying about Miley. Her airplay is going to start picking up since the song has shown resilience in sales and the strong YouTube views. As long as her sales don't suddenly plummet, she should be fine. Klou 2,414
People complaining about Crazy Kids sales should note it has a total of 15M AI. That is....nothing... Not many songs woud be very high on iTunes with 15M AI unless they're a complete smash, had a good video just released, or had some sort of TV performance.
